Peter Parker is dead. The guy who becomes Spider-Man was killed by his greatest arch nemesis Doctor Octopus (Doc Ock) in the controversial 700th issue of 'Amazing Spider-Man' released this week.
Spider-Man died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 as the latest issue of the comic book hit the stores. Fans were shocked about the latest twist in the story of Peter Parker, mourning the death of one of the well-loved superheroes.
With the death of Spidey, Marvel writer Dan Slott has been getting death threats, according to reports. However, the writer said that Peter Parker's death and the culmination of his battle as Spider-Man will be an epic turn in the storyline.
Peter Parker as the Amazing Spider-Man might succumb to Doc Ock aka Otto Octavius in a battle but the legacy of Spider-Man will continue. Parker's mind is trapped in the withered, decaying dying body of his nemesis, Doctor Octopus.
Apparently, the villain Doc Ock takes on a new life of fulfilling the mission of Spider-Man, realizing that with great power comes great responsibility. Peter Parker is gone for good in the Amazing Spider-Man final issue but his life has inspired Doc in becoming a hero.
“Gone are his days of villainy, but since it’s Doc Ock and he has that ego, he’s not going to try and just be Spider-man, he’s going to try to be the best Spider-Man ever,” writer Dan Slott said.
Now, fans will surely bid goodbye to Peter Parker, the geeky teenager we all loved as the Amazing Spider-Man. Nevertheless, the superhero adventure continues.
