The Battle Rounds of The Voice of the Philippines kicked off Sunday (July 28) and the first pair from each team went head-to-head for a slot at the live shows.
In 'The Battles', the coaches paired up their artists and have them face off in singing showdown to determine who will stay and who will go. At the end of the match-up, the coach must pick which artist will be sent home, and which artist will move on to the Live Shows.
First to went up the battles stage were Team Apl's Tristhan Perfecto and Lorenzana siblings (Guji and Grace) in a threesome number of Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours) by Stevie Wonder. The three enjoyed the song, with Guji even showcasing his beatboxing skills. In the end, coach Apl chose Tristhan Perfecto to advance to the live shows. [Battle video]
Team Bamboo's Lee Grane Maranan and Dan Billano faced off in U2's One. Coach Lea said that their version was the sexiest she ever heard of that song and gave the credit to Lee Grane. Their coach, Bamboo eventually picked Lee Grane over Dan, despite a different view from his adviser, Joey Ayala. It was a controversial choice for Bamboo, with several netizens and battle audience believing that Dan outshone Lee Grane in the battle. [Battle video]
Team Sarah's artists, Morissette Amon and Lecelle Trinidad did the disco hit No More Tears (Enough is Enough) by Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer. The song was perfect for the two divas, who really worked out the crowd. However, only one of them will advance to the live shows, and it was Morissette Amon. [Battle video]
The last battle was between Team Lea's Chien Berbana and Mitoy Yonting. The most-awaited of the night, Chien and Mitoy performed Heart's Alone. Mitoy and Chien let it all out but despite being both outstanding, coach Lea has to leave one behind. It was a very hard decision for Ms. Lea yet she had to do it, and so Mitoy will continue.
