ABS-CBN Wins Big at the 35th CMMA | Catholic Mass Media Awards 2013

ABS-CBN Corporation won big at the recently held 35th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA), bagging a total of eight recognition for its values-oriented programs on different media platforms.

ABS-CBN took home four awards in the television categories that include Best TV Special for its documentary “San Pedro Calungsod,” Best Talk Show for “Bottomline with Boy Abunda,” Best Public Service Program for “Pinoy True Stories: Saklolo,” and Best Station ID for ABS-CBN TV7 Palawan’s “Kwento Ng Pasko” Christmas Station ID.

For radio, DZMM’s hard-hitting radio commentary program “Failon Ngayon,” anchored by veteran broadcast journalist Ted Failon, again won the Best News Commentary award for the second consecutive year.

ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management was cited in the Best Public Service Radio Ad award for conceptualizing and producing the radio promo “DZMM Bantay Lakbay” that aired during the Holy Week in 2012.

Star Cinema’s 2013 blockbuster film “It Takes a Man and a Woman,” starring John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo, was awarded the Students’ Choice for Best Film.

ABS-CBN also earned a recognition in the music category as “Kuya Pedro,” a song written and performed by inspirational diva Jamie Rivera under Star Records honoring San Pedro Calungsod, won the Best Inspirational Song award.

Organized by the Archdiocese of Manila, the CMMA is awarded to media products, whether in radio, press, advertising, television and film, that enhance the total human development of the Filipino audience through the competent and professional use of mass media techniques and to promote the Christian values.

Angelica Panganiban, Best Actress; Rayver, Matteo and Joseph Marco Best Actor at Cinema One Originals 2013

At the Cinema One Originals 2013 awards night, held last Saturday (November 16) at the Dolphy Theater, two films earned the title of Best Picture. Adolfo Alix, Jr.’s “Alamat ni China Doll” took home the award for the festival’s Plus category, while Jet Leyco’s “Bukas Na Lang Sapagkat Gabi Na” won in the Currents category.

“Alamat ni China Doll,” the story of a young woman named Helen (Angelica Panganiban) whose wanting for a new life gets disrupted by an eager journalist’s controversial article, was the night’s biggest winner for the Plus category. Aside from Best Picture, it also took home five other awards, including Best Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Music, and Best Sound.

For the Plus category, the Best Actress went to Angelica Panganiban, while the Best Actor Award went to Joel Torre for “Kabisera”. The titles of Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor went to Bing Pimentel for “Kabisera” and to Peque Gallaga for “Woman of the Ruins,” respectively.

In the awards given for the Currents category, “Bukas Na Lang Sapagkat Gabi Na,” a narrative of realted occurrences during the time of Martial Law, dominated alongside “Riddles of My Homecoming,” Arnel Mardoquio’s silent film that tackles the traditional beliefs of the Lumads and Moros of Mindanao.

“Bukas Na Lang Sapagkat Gabi Na” also took home the award for Best Screenplay, while “Riddles of My Homecoming” took home a total of five awards, including the Jury Prize, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Music.

The Best Actress award for the Currents category went to Vivian Velez for “Bendor,” and the Best Actor award went to the “Saturday Night Chills” main trio composed of Rayver Cruz, Matteo Guidicelli, and Joseph Marco. The Best Supporting Actress award went to Anna Luna for “Bendor,” while the title of Best Supporting Actor went to David Chua, also for “Saturday Night Chills”.

This year’s festival also honored two of today’s most important icons in the realm of Philippine Cinema—Director Elwood Perez and Mother Lily Monteverde, who were both named recipients of the Cinema One Tribute.

The Cinema One Originals Festival 2013 was brought to you by Cinema One, the country’s number one cable channel. Cinema One is now accepting entries for next year’s Cinema One Originals Festival which shall mark the festival’s first decade. All submissions should be complete full scripts for a feature length film.

The film script should tackle a commercially viable subject with universal themes. The filmmaker submitting these script entries should be ready to discuss the sellable and marketable points of the proposed film project.

From all submissions, ten finalists will be selected and will be given a production budget of P2 million each, the highest budget given by any institution or festival in the country.

Kris Aquino and The X Factor Philippines Nominated in Asian Television Awards 2013

ABS-CBN’s “Kris TV” host Kris Aquino and hit talent-reality show “The X Factor Philippines” will compete in this year’s Asian Television Awards (ATA).

Based on ATA’s recently released list of nominees, Kris is the only Philippine nominee in the Best Entertainment Presenter/Host category wherein she will compete with other four TV hosts from Singapore and Thailand.

Likewise, “The X Factor Philippines” is the lone Filipino reality show that will compete in the Best Reality Show category along with programs from Singapore, Indonesia, India, and China.

According to its official website (ATA.onscreenasia.com), ATA is the Asian TV industry’s most significant and celebrated event, recognizing excellence in programming, production and performance. The results of the competition are determined by an expert panel of over 50 judges from across the region.

This year’s ATA awards ceremony and gala dinner will be held on December 5 (Thursday) at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore.

ABS-CBN and DZMM Named TV and Radio Stations of the Year at VACC Awards 2013

ABS-CBN and its flagship AM radio station DZMM were named the Outstanding TV Station of the Year and the Outstanding Radio Station of the Year at the recently held Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) Awards for their commitment to eradicate criminality and corruption and assist crime victims.

Ted Failon’s current affairs program “Failon Ngayon,” meanwhile, was once again recognized for the second straight year in the Anti-Corruption Campaign category for exposing and acting on corrupt practices that affect the public.

ABS-CBN’s late night newscast “Bandila,” anchored by Julius Babao, Karen Davila, and Ces Drilon, was honored as the Outstanding TV News Program, while broadcast journalists Doris Bigornia and Zyann Ambrosio both received the TV Reporters Special Award.

For DZMM, anchor Korina Sanchez was named the Outstanding Radio Anchor and her program “Rated Korina” as the Outstanding Radio Program.

Vic Lima and David Oro, the anchors of “Tandem: Lima at Oro” took home the Radio News Anchor Special Award, while Noel Alamar won as the Outstanding Radio Field Reporter.

The awards were given at the 15th anniversary celebration of VACC, a non-government organization that aims to fight crime and promote justice in the country.

ABS-CBN and DZMM were also hailed as the Television Station of the Year and Radio Station of the Year at this year’s Rotary Club of Manila Journalism Awards, one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious award-giving bodies in journalism.

OTJ Cinema Trailer | Action-Packed Movie of Gerald Anderson and Piolo Pascual

The cinema trailer for the internationally-acclaimed film OTJ (On The Job) has been released. The said film had its world premiere at the 66th Cannes International Film Festival in France and recently won the jury's choice award in the 17th Puchon International Fantastic Film Fest in South Korea.

OTJ Bags Jury's Choice Award in 17th Puchon Filmfest in Korea; Joel Torre is Best Actor

After its well-received world premiere in the 66th Cannes International Film Festival in France, Filipino action-thriller “OTJ” (On The Job) won two major awards in the recently held 17th Puchon International Fantastic Film Fest in South Korea.

Co-produced by Star Cinema and Reality Entertainment, the Erik Matti masterpiece “OTJ” won jury’s choice, while one of its lead actors, Joel Torre, bagged the best actor trophy. Joel played as a middle-aged hired killer in the film.

Angel Locsin and Coco Martin Win Yahoo OMG! Awards 2013 Actress and Actor of the Year

Kapamilya stars Angel Locsin and Coco Martin added another feather on their caps when the two were proclaimed as Yahoo OMG! Awards 2013 Actress and Actor of the Year, respectively in a ceremony held July 19 at the MOA Arena.

Angel Locsin got a total of 263,220 votes beating closest rival Marian Rivera who got 245,179 votes. Anne Curtis came in third (60,627 votes), Jodi Sta. Maria followed with 49,545 votes while Bea Alonzo came next with 18,961 votes. However, Marian was able to beat Angel in the Celebrity of the Year category.

Meanwhile, Coco Martin amassed 190,262 votes to win the title. It was a tight race between him and Kapuso star Dingdong Dantes, who took the second lead with 169,923 votes. John Lloyd Cruz took the third spot with 79,147 votes, while Dennis Trillo and Derek Ramsay took the fourth and fifth spot respectively with 23,955 and 7,541 votes.

Both Angel and Coco won the same awards last year.

The Yahoo! Philippines OMG! Awards is now on its 3rd year of honoring the accomplishments of the year's best artists in the field of music, film and television. The winners were voted by fans through SMS and online.

The Yahoo Philippines OMG! Awards 2013 concluded July 19 in a grand party at the SM Mall of Asia Arena where the official list of winners were revealed. The Yahoo OMG! Awards 2013 was hosted by Edu Manzano and Billy Crawford.

Kapamilya stars dominated the list of Yahoo OMG! Awards 2013 winners. Coco Martin and Angel Locsin won the OMG! Actor and Actress of the Year, respectively. Meanwhile, KimXi tandem, Kim Chiu and Xian Lim, was hailed OMG! Love Team of the Year. Vice Ganda and Eugene Domingo won Comedian and Comedienne of the Year, both for the third time.

11th Gawad Tanglaw for Movies 2013 Winners: Zanjoe Marudo is Best Supporting Actor

The winners of the 11th Gawad Tanglaw Awards for Movies (2013) have been revealed and Zanjoe Marudo won Best Supporting Actor, his first for the movie One More Try. The Kapamilya actor tied with Allen Dizon for his role in Migrante.

Meanwhile, Jericho Rosales added another feather on his cap after winning the Best Actor award for the movie Alagwa (Breakaway). His portrayal in the said internationally-acclaimed movie also won for him this year's Gawad Urian Best Actor trophy.

Tied with Echo as Best Actor is Dingdong Dantes, who has been collecting acting trophies for his performance in the movie One More Try. The 2013 Gawad Tanglaw Best Actress award went to no less than Nora Aunor of Thy Womb.

The 36th Gawad Urian 2013 awards night was held last June 18, 2013 at the NBC Tent, Taguig. Jericho Rosales was hailed as the Best Actor for his role in Alagwa (Breakaway) while Nora Aunor got another Best Actress trophy for the film The Womb.

26th Awit Awards logoThe Philippine Association of Record Industry (PARI) has released the nominees for the 26th Awit Awards 2013. With the aim of recognizing Filipinos' undying passion for music, Awit Awards honors performing artists and people behind the making of Filipino recorded music.
