Shamcey Supsup to Host Miss Universe 2012 Web Coverage

Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner up Shamcey Supsup will be hosting the internet coverage of Miss Universe 2012 happening in Las Vegas, Nevada this December.

The news was confirmed last Tuesday by Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. head Stella Marquez de Araneta during the send-off ceremonies for Janine Tugonon, this year's Philippine bet to the said pageant.

Shamcey Supsup received an invitation via e-mail from the Miss Universe organization to host the web-based components of the competition, which she found suspicious at first, until BPCI, which also received the same, confirmed that it was a legitimate correspondence.

It is not yet clear whether Shamcey will be given an exposure during the coronation night on December 19 at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino but for now, she was told she would host the online coverage on the pageant’s official website, which would involve the preliminary competition, the national costume competition, as well as other activities. As a segment host, Shamcey will have the chance to interview the Miss Universe 2012 delegates prior to the finals.

Madame Stella Marquez-Araneta said Miss Universe viewers should expect more of Shamcey on the Internet and she is hoping that her presence will also help Janine Tugonon’s chances of taking home the crown.

As for Shamcey, who will leave for Las Vegas on December 13, being a backstage host for the Miss Universe is a huge privilege and honor since not everyone gets a second experience with the world's most popular pageant. She admitted, though that she's quite nervous, what with the added pressure of hosting the events.

Shamcey's feat is again one proud moment for Filipinos. Last year, Filipina international star Lea Salonga seated as one of the judges during the finals night of the Miss Universe pageant.

Janine Tugonon Shows Off Her Signature 'Cobra Walk,' All Set for Miss Universe 2012

Miss Universe-Philippines 2012 Janine Tugonon gave us a glimpse of her signature 'cobra walk' on her The Buzz guesting Sunday, November 18. The 23-year-old morena beauty from Bataan will be the country's representative to the 2012 Miss Universe Pageant to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 19.

Janine Tugonon gamely demonstrated her walk, which has been dubbed the "cobra" when The Buzz host Charlene Gonzales asked her if she has her own version of the "tsunami walk" popularized by her predecessor Shamcey Supsup, who was named third runner-up in last year’s Miss Universe.

Janine has been preparing for months now for the Miss Universe 2012 pageant. Though pressured, Janine was confident that God will be with her as she gives her best for the country but she's also asking for prayers and support from fellow Filipinos.

Miss USA 2012 Winner is Olivia Culpo from Rhode Island

Miss Rhode Island Olivia Culpo was crowned Miss USA 2012 at the 61st annual Miss USA Pageant held at the  Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, June 3 (June 4 morning in Manila). The pageant was hosted by Bravo's Andy Cohen and E!'s Giuliana Rancic.

The 20-year old Boston College student strutted gracefully with her purple swimsuit and gown but what really made her snatch the crown was her response to the final question which reads, "Would it be fair if a transgender woman won the Miss Universe title?"

"I do think that would be fair, but I could understand how people could be apprehensive to take that road...There are so many people who have a need to change for a happier life. I do accept that because I believe it's a free country," said Olivia Culpo to the delight of the crowd.

Miss Maryland Nana Meriwether end as runner-up followed by Miss Ohio Audrey Bolte, Miss Nevada Jade Kelsall and Miss Georgia Jasmyn Wilkins, to complete the Top 5.

Olivia Culpo will represent USA in the forthcoming Miss Universe 2012 pageant later this year. She will compete against the Philippines' Janine Mari Tugonon on the said pageant in December.
