Pilita Corrales' Mentor Role on 'The X Factor Philippines' Ends

Posted on September 13, 2012 | 12:40 PM

Joan Da and Mentor Pilita CorralesPilita Corrales’ duties as a mentor of the Over 25s ended last Sunday (Sep 9) after her last mentee, Joan Da, got booted from the “The X Factor Philippines.”

Joan once again landed in the bottom two, this time with Charice’s mentee Allen Sta. Maria after they scored the lowest number of votes from the public. Pilita and Charice sided with their bets but Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera both voted to save Allen after watching her survival song. For Gary, Allen didn’t just perform on stage but also expressed what she truly feels with the song. Martin, on the other hand, said that Joan only “sang a song” while Allen “sang her life.”

With Joan leaving the competition, Pilita is the first mentor to lose all her acts. Meanwhile, Gary is hanging tough with his last mentee in the Groups category, Daddy’s Home. Charice still has KZ Tandingan and Allen under the Girls category, while Martin remains unrattled with three of his Boys still in the game— Jeric Medina, Gabriel Maturan, and Kedebon Colim.

What challenges await them this week? Who will go home and who will continue their course to becoming the next multimedia superstar? Be sure to save your favorites from being in the bottom two by voting for them this Saturday night (Sept 8). Vote after their performances by texting:

XF<space>JERIC/GAB/KED/ALLEN/KZ/DAD and send it to 2331 for Globe and Sun subscribers and 231 for Smart and Talk ‘n Text subscribers.

Chris Cayzer Makes it to Round 3 of The X Factor Australia, an Early Favorite of Fans

Posted on September 5, 2012 | 1:07 PM

Chris Cayzer Makes it to the Round 3 of The X Factor Australia, an early favorite of fansFormer Kapamilya talent Chris Cayzer went past through the group round of The X Factor Australia during the Super Boot Camp round of the said reality-talent search which aired on Tuesday night.

Last week, the audition video of Chris Cayzer aired and went viral. He sang Vanessa Carlton's A Thousand Miles on audition and got the yeses of three out of the four judges while gaining a standing ovation from judge Mel B of Spice Girls and some members of the live audience.

Chris Cayzer might be lucky enough to make it through since the group where he belonged got relatively bad reviews from the judges with their performance of  New Radical's You Get What You Give. Mel B said that the performance was uncomfortable to watch while Ronan Keating found their rendition a disgrace.

Judge Guy Sebastian, who was the only one who didn't vote for Chris Cayzer during the auditions, was still unimpressed by the Filipino-Australian. He singled-out Chris and said that he doesn't have the X factor.

"I didn't get Chris. There's a certain ceiling and Chris can't get past it. He doesn't have the X factor," the first Australian Idol winner commented.

Despite being lambasted by the judges, Chris remained an early favorite in The X Factor Australia. One proof  is a video posted on YouTube with him performing his audition piece to promote the show in a mall flocked by Australian fans.

Protégé Shock: Andres Vasquez and Three Others Eliminated!

Posted on September 3, 2012 | 6:23 PM

It was a shocking Sunday night (September 2) on Protégé: The Battle for the Big Artista Break as four hopefuls were eliminated after last week's single elimination of Reese Tayag.

Andres Vasquez from Mega Manila who was hailed as the 'Best Performer' and 'Director's Choice' on last week's short film challenge with Maricel Soriano and Cannes Best Director Brilliante Mendoza was sent packing along with three other Protégés Vien Allen King (Mega Manila), David John Llanas and Steffi Pacheco (both from Mindanao).

Protege: Andres Vasquez, Steffi Pacheco, Vien Allen King and David John Llanas eliminated!

The said episode indeed shock viewers and trended on Twitter with the hashtag #ProtegeShock. Now, only 10 finalists were left and they are Elle Ramirez from Mega Manila, Japs De Luna and Shelly Hipolito from Northern & Central Luzon, Jeric Gonzales, Arny Ross and Thea Tolentino from South Luzon, Bryan Benedict, Mikoy morales and Zandra Summer from Visayas and Ruru Madrid from Mindanao.

Another thing that shocked the entire Protégénation was the mentors walking out after they were forced by the production to choose only one from their Protégés.

What could be the reason for these Protégé shockers? Probably, the top 10 will be distributed equally to every mentor the reason that they were asked to choose only one. Some said that a wildcard will definitely happen as a twist since one of the best Protégés was eliminated.

What do you think about this Protégé shock?

Video: Former Kapamilya Chris Cayzer Auditions for 'The X Factor Australia'

Posted on August 28, 2012 | 6:14 PM

Former Kapamilya singer-actor Chris Cayzer auditioned in the Australian version of The X Factor where he received a standing ovation from judge Melanie Brown (a.k.a. Scary Spice of the Spice Girls) and some members of the audience.

Chris Cayzer's The X Factor Australia audition aired Monday night and he just wowed the crowd with an alternative version of Vanessa Carlton's A Thousand Miles.

Chris Cayzer audition video for The X Factor Australia
Melanie Brown said that she's found "something extra special" with Chris Cayzer that  she haven’t seen in a long time, adding that Chris could win the whole thing if he's serious with the job.

Boyzone's Ronan Keating also praised the 25-year-old singer while Aussie singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte said that she's happy Chris came back to Australia. Chris Cayzer stayed for 6 years in the Philippines rounding in the country's biggest TV networks. He became part of ABS-CBN's ASAP and GMA-7's SOP before appearing in TV-5's P.O.5.

If the three judges loved Chris' performance and had given him their yeses, first Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian thought otherwise, saying that Chris "would have to grow a lot" for superstardom and gave his "No."

With three yeses and one no, Chris Cayzer made it to the Bootcamp, the show's next round. Watch Chris Cayzer's audition video in The X Factor Australia below:

Reese Tayag Eliminated on Protégé

Posted on August 27, 2012 | 9:04 AM

North and Central Luzon protege Reese Tayag was eliminated in the said artista search, August 26 after scoring the lowest in an acting performance wherein all proteges were given the chance to act alongside the “Diamond Star” Maricel Soriano in five short films directed by Cannes Film Festival awardee Brillante Mendoza and written by Palanca awardee Floy Quintos.

North and Central Luzon protege Reese Tayag eliminated on Protege: The Battle for the Big Artista Break, August 26
Only thirty percent of the total score was based on the text votes while seventy percent was taken from the average of the scores given by the four judges — director Bert de Leon, actress Cherie Gil, GMA executive Anna Teresa Gozon-Abrogar and actor-comedian Joey de Leon. Reese, however, does not take her elimination personally against the judges.

Aside from Reese, two other proteges came close to leaving the competition. They are Vien Alen King of Mega Manila and Japs de Luna of North and Central Luzon.

One of the surprises this week was the awarding of special awards to proteges who showed commendable performance in the short films. Maricel Soriano herself picked Elle Ramirez and Andres Vasquez (Mega Manila) as the Best Female and Best Male Proteges, respectively. Andres also received the Director’s Choice Award for Breakthrough Performance.

The Visayas team, on the other hand, received the Best in Ensemble Acting.

The special awardees were automatically saved the eliminations.

Andres Vasquez, Bryan Benedict, Mikoy Morales, Zandra Summer and Elle Ramirez

The number of proteges who survived the cut so far is down to 14, and it will even get smaller each week until the grand finals wherein only one male and one female protege will be hailed as victors.

Who will get eliminated next week? We’ll find that out next Sunday during the next gala night of Protege: The Battle for the Big Artista Break hosted by Dingdong Dantes and Carla Abellana. It airs live after iBilib on GMA-7.

Kris Aquino Returns as Judge in PGT Season 4, Ai Ai and FMG Yet to Confirm

Posted on August 25, 2012 | 6:20 PM

Queen of all media Kria Aquino will be returning on the next season of Pilipinas Got Talent. Kris, herself confirmed that she will be one of the judges for PGT Season 4 which is slated to air by October this year.

Kris Aquino Pilipinas Got Talent (from Kris official twitter account)
In her official Twitter account, @krisaquino214, Kris answered a fan if she will again be one of the judges for the upcoming 4th season of the hit Philippines "Got Talent" franchise.
"YES. Naka-block off na Cebu and Davao auditions this Sept.," Kris tweeted on Thursday, hinting that auditions in front of the judges will start by September.

Pilipinas Got Talent has had three successful seasons in the country and along with Kris Aquino in the judges' panel were comedy queen Ai Ai Delas Alas and former ABS-CBN president Freddie "FMG" Garcia. The return of the latter two in the 4th season of PGT, however, is not yet confirmed.

Singers Least Priority in Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT) Season 4

Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT) is looking for new and unique acts other than singing for its upcoming 4th season. Auditions, which are now ongoing, will have to give least priority to vocal acts such as singing to give chance to other talents Filipinos are also good at.

Pilipinas Got Talent (PGT 4) logo

For the past three seasons, we saw singers conquering PGT and eventually emerging as the winners. Grand champions Jovit Baldivino from season 1, Marcelito Pomoy from season 2 and Maasinhon Trio from season 3 were all vocal acts and the said reality show have had enough of them prompting the management to have a change of priorities for the upcoming season 4.

There are reports that FremantleMedia, the show's distributor became worried of singers' winning streak on PGT that they reminded the Philippine franchise producer to encourage other acts so that they have greater chance of winning the talent show.

Even the hosts of PGT 4, Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford would like to see other acts dominating the competition, citing The X Factor Philippines as a right venue to showcase Pinoy's singing prowess.

"Napakagaling ng mga Pinoy sa pagkanta, hindi na pwede kwestyunin iyan ng buong mundo. [Pero] oras na para bigyan ang tsansa ng iba," Luis told ABS-CBN News on Friday.

"We want it to be different. We're very happy na 'yung singers at this point, ay mayroong sariling show, 'yung 'X-Factor,' so sana, we want this to be really different. We want variety, we want talent," he added.

Billy also agreed with co-host Luis and said that Pinoys have unique talents other than singing, acting or dancing.

"We want talent. Kahit anong gusto mong gawin ay open ang 'PGT.' Dahil ipagmamalaki natin na hindi lang sa kantahan, sa sayawan, sa aktingan ang kaya natin. Meron naman talagang kakaibang talento ang Pinoy," shared Billy.

Pilipinas Got Talent Season 4 is expected to air this coming October.
