It was inddeed a happy new year for Anne Curtis as she was chosen to play the most-coveted role of Dyesebel on TV for the ABS-CBN adaptation of the classic mermaid tale of late novelist Mars Ravelo. The announcement was made last January 9 (read here).
The decision to cast Anne Curtis as Dyesebel was backed by marketing research with the results showing the actress-host as top choice to play the love-lorn mermaid. In her interview, Anne revealed that she was offered the role a day before the big announcement.
"I’ve seen the film versions of past Dyesebels like Vilma Santos, Alma Moreno, Alice Dixson, Charlene Gonzales and even the one with Marian Rivera, at maihanay lang ako sa kanila is already a big honor for me." quipped Anne who promised to give her all to be the best Dyesebel.
When asked to comment on GMA-7's upcoming mermaid show Kambal Sirena starring Louise delos Reyes which will reportedly compete against her Dyesebel this summer, Anne said: "It’s okay. Lahat naman, may right gumawa, but siyempre, iba yung original at all-time classic talaga."
For this ABS-CBN Dyesebel remake, Anne will be paired with ex-flame Sam Milby as the merman Liro and Gerald Anderson as Dyesebel's human lover Fredo (click here for the complete cast).
Mars Ravelo's Dyesebel on ABS-CBN will be directed by Don Cuaresma and Francis Xavier Pasion under Dreamscape Entertainment.
