ABS-CBN Mobile Opens First Store

Posted on December 13, 2013 | 3:03 PM

ABS-CBNmobile signaled its commercial launch by opening its first store in the country on Wednesday (Dec 11) where consumers can buy SIM cards, gadgets, and prepaid load.

ABS-CBN Mobile Opens First Store

ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III said that ABS-CBNmobile will change the way Filipinos use their mobile devices and consume content by giving them the choice to watch their favorite programs at their chosen time and place, aside from allowing them to send text messages, make calls, and browse the Internet.

“Today, it is a novelty in the Philippines. But sooner than we think, this will become the norm, like it is becoming the standard viewing practice in Japan and Korea,” Lopez said during the store’s grand opening.

“This is the beginning of a new age in Philippine media. ABS-CBN’s programs on phones and tablets will change the boundaries of time and location,” he added.

ABS-CBNmobile’s iWanTV app allows users to watch programs on ABS-CBN, ANC, Studio 23, Nickelodeon, E!, and Knowledge Channel.

ABS-CBN president and CEO Charo Santos-Concio, meanwhile, said that fans will also be able to chat with and get exclusive content from their favorite stars through a special app available on ABS-CBNmobile.

“Today’s fans don’t just want to watch TV; they want to participate, they want to interact, they want to make their choice. It is how our company moves into the new age of media. And we are optimistic about it because we have our content that affirms, and our stars with their authentic relationship with the audience,” Santos-Concio said.

Launched in November, ABS-CBNmobile sought to help the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda by giving away100,000 SIM cards that they can use to communicate with their loved ones. The mobile service also launched a “share load” program by which subscribers can give load to the survivors.

“We might not have been able to launch with a fantastic ad campaign that our marketing team developed, but we are very proud of the fact that our improvised launch allowed us to show what ABS-CBNmobile really stood for – to be of service to the Filipino people,” said ABS-CBN Convergence head Carlo Katigbak.

ABS-CBN Convergence is ABS-CBN’s mobile telecommunications subsidiary and operates ABS-CBNmobile.

Also present during the grand opening were ABS-CBN executives led by Customer Relationship Management head and ABS-CBNmobile Marketing head Nandy Villar, and ABS-CBN stars and ABS-CBNmobile endorsers Erich Gonzales and Julia Montes.

The ABS-CBNmobile store is located on the ground floor of ABS-CBN’s ELJ Communications Center in Quezon City. For more information, just visit www.abscbnmobile.com, or follow @abscbnmobile on Twitter.

ABS-CBN Mobile Now Available; 100,000 Free Sim Cards Given Away to Yolanda Survivors

Posted on November 20, 2013 | 8:31 PM

ABS-CBNmobile announced it is giving away 100,000 SIM cards for free to the survivors of Typhoon Yolanda to help them connect and communicate with their loved ones.

Piolo, John Lloyd, Bea, Kim and Enrique for ABS-CBNmobile

The announcement was made at ABS-CBN’s “Tulong Na, Tabang Na, Tayo Na! An All-Star Benefit Concert” aired on ABS-CBN Sunday night (Nov 17) by actor Piolo Pascual, who also appears in the TV spot along with ABS-CBN stars John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo, Kim Chiu, and Enrique Gil.

The SIM cards will be given away along with relief packages, in tandem with Sagip Kapamilya relief efforts in several Yolanda-hit areas.

Each ABS-CBNmobile SIM card has free prepaid load worth P50, 15 free texts to all networks, and 5MB of Internet that the survivors can use to connect with their loved ones.

Kapamilyas outside the calamity areas can help too. ABS-CBNmobile will make available another 100,000 SIM cards to sell in Metro Manila and other areas not affected by the typhoon to enable the sharing of load with the survivors.

Just buy ABS-CBNmobile SIM cards found in sari-sari stores and tiangges and share load by texting Share<space><amount> and send to 2131. Any of the following load amounts can be shared: P10, P20, P50, P100.

All load shared will be collected and distributed to the Yolanda survivors. To find out how much load has been shared, ABS-CBNmobile SIM card subscribers can text Share<space>Status to 2131. All transactions to 2131 are free.

Given the limited telecom signal and access to television currently being experienced in Yolanda-ravaged areas, ABS-CBNmobile and SkyCable have also partnered to put up TV viewing stations and calling centers, starting with Tacloban and to be rolled out in other key calamity areas. The viewing and calling centers will be available until power and communication lines in affected areas have normalized.

To find out the locations where ABS-CBNmobile SIMs are now available, just call 7878 through your ABS-CBNmobile SIM card or 266-7878 from your landline.

ABS-CBN Pioneers Media Convergence, to Offer New Service via ABS-CBN Mobile

Posted on May 28, 2013 | 1:30 PM

Lopez-owned ABS-CBN Convergence ushers in the media convergence era in the Philippines with the expansion of its telecommunications business via a network sharing agreement with Globe Telecom.

This groundbreaking partnership, which converges two separate industries, enables ABS-CBN – the country’s largest media and entertainment conglomerate – to deliver ABS-CBN content and offer traditional telecoms services on mobile devices.

ABS-CBN Pioneers Media Convergence, to Offer New Service Via ABS-CBN Mobile

In a press conference, ABS-CBN Convergence president and managing director Carlo Katigbak said this newest pioneering move from the 60-year old company aims to create a new experience for Filipinos by expanding their access to ABS-CBN content on mobile devices.

“We have come to realize that the mobile internet is going to become one of the most important platforms for delivering content to our audiences.  We believe that in the same way television revolutionized the mass market’s ability to receive information and entertainment, the wireless internet will be the next most important medium for our audience. Very soon, our Kapamilyas will enjoy special shows, receive our news, and interact with our stars from anywhere and anytime they want, through their tablets and cellphones,” Katigbak said.

Globe Telecom CEO Ernest Cu commended the partnership, saying it will create a new market for mobile users.

He said, “We are happy that Globe is once again at the forefront of a pioneering effort.  We entered this partnership to provide Filipinos with more reasons to enjoy their mobile phones.  The exclusive content that ABS CBN will provide ushers in a new form of entertainment for mobile users in the Philippines. We are now seeing the gains of our network modernization and IT transformation initiatives, having new capabilities to enter into these businesses to showcase our strength and leadership.”

Through the network-sharing agreement, Globe will provide capacity and coverage on its existing cellular mobile telephony network to ABS-CBN Convergence on a nationwide basis. The parties may also share assets such as servers, towers, and switches.

This is not the first time that ABS-CBN has ventured into new media territory in order to deliver its programs and other content to its viewers. In the 2000s, ABS-CBN launched TFC.tv, the first video-streaming site that carries ABS-CBN content intended for Filipinos abroad. Recently, ABS-CBN also introduced its free video streaming website for Philippine residents, iWanTV!, which has revolutionized the viewing habits of Filipinos by allowing them to watch ABS-CBN programs on demand.

Katigbak maintained that the best is still yet to come for Filipinos, who remain to be the network’s inspiration in coming up with world-class programs and innovative ways of delivering content.

“ABS-CBN has always been about delivering Filipino content to our audiences over the platforms that are most relevant to them,” he explained.  “This is also another milestone in our transition from being predominantly a broadcast company to becoming a complete media enterprise, reaching our audiences not just on television, but on anymedium that is important and relevant to them.”

ABS-CBN, exuding the pioneering spirit that has become a trademark of Lopez-owned companies, was also in the forefront of the cable TV industry through SkyCable and is well ahead in preparing for the Philippines’ switch to Digital Terrestrial Television with test broadcast activities being conducted in different parts of the nation.

It has also set a template for media organization expansion, as it has successfully spread out its business from just radio and TV broadcasting to also print, licensing, music, events, and now, telecommunications.
