Bruno Mars Super Bowl Halftime Performance (Video); Singer Pays Tribute to Late Pinay Mom

The Super Bowl XLVIII game was held on February 2 at MetLife Stadium, Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Bruno Mars performed during the game's halftime show.

Bruno Mars opened the show with a tribute to her late Filipina mother, whose name was written in a banner across a large red heart in the drum set. Bruno's mother Bernadette died last year due to brain aneurysm (read about it here).

Bruno Mars then rocked the halftime show with an electrifying medley performance of his hits Locked Out of Heaven, Treasure, Runaway and Just the Way You Are. He also surprised the crowd with Give It Away where he performed with Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The Super Bowl XLVIII game ended in favor of Seattle Seahawks, defeating the Denver Broncos 43–8 to seal their first Super Bowl win in franchise history.

56th Grammy Awards 2014 Nominees: Jay Z, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry

The nominations for the 56th Grammy Awards were announced December 6 by the Recording Academy via a one-hour special titled The Grammy Nominations Concert Live—Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night, held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

Jay Z tops the nominations with nine while Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Justin Timberlake, and Pharrell Williams each garner seven nods; Drake and mastering engineer Bob Ludwig are up for five awards. Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry also got multiple nominations.

The Grammys awards night will happen on January 26, 2014 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Here is the list of nominees for the Grammy Awards 2014:

Bruno Mars' Pinay Mother Dies: Report

The mother of Grammy award-winning artist Bruno Mars has died in Hawaii, a report on the Associated Press (AP) said on Sunday.

Bernadette Hernandez, the Filipina mother of Bruno Mars died Saturday (June 1) of brain aneurysm, the Associated Press reported, quoting a publicist for Bruno Mars' label, Atlantic Records who told the news on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak on the record.

"Hernandez was 55 years old. She died in Honolulu at Queens Medical Center; no other information was given," the AP said.

According to other reports, Bruno Mars' mother suffered a severe heart attack on May 31 and was confined at the Queen's Medical Center. 

According to the AP, Bernadette Hernandez was a hula dancer and a singer who immigrated from the Philippines and "nurtured her son's interest in music at an early age." 

Bruno Mars expressed his adoration to his mother at an early age. In fact, he had this song I Love You, Mom dedicated to his mother that he sung when he was only 4 years old. Listen below:

Bruno Mars has released the music video for his second official single When I Was Your Man (the first being the chart-topping Locked Out of Heaven) from his sophomore album "Unorthodox Jukebox" which dropped December last year.

In the When I Was Your Man music video, Bruno Mars worked out the piano wearing a perm and aviator shades which completed the video's retro vibe. Directed by Cameron Duddy and Mars himself, it was released on February 5.

Sarah Geronimo is Pinoy Kids' Most Favorite Singer

Popstar Sarah Geronimo is the most favorite singer of Filipino children ages 7-14 according to a recent survey done by Cartoon Network. 

Sarah Geronimo beats international singing sensation and X Factor judge Charice and Canadian teen idol Justin Bieber, who are tied at second place.

In third place is country singer Taylor Swift while Bruno Mars placed fifth.

Cartoon Network's "New Generations 2012" study which involved face-to-face interviews with 1,000 randomly selected kids from Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao, aims to look at the preferences and lifestyles of Filipino kids.

The study, which was conducted from February 25 to March 26, covered socioeconomic classes A, B, C and D.

Boy Abunda Wants To Produce Jessica Sanchez' Concert

King of Talk Boy Abunda admitted that he wanted to produce if ever a Philippine concert for Fil-Mexican-American Jessica Sanchez who is now on tight competition in American Idol Season 11. Jessica now belongs to the Top 6 of American Idol 2012 and striving to get into the season 11 finals come May 23rd.

Last Sunday, April 22 on The Buzz, Boy Abunda expressed his admiration for Jessica and confessed that if given the chance, he would like to be the producer of Jessica Sanchez' Philippine concert.

"Hindi pa ito alam ni Kris (Aquino) pero sana ay mabigyan po kami ng pagkakataon na mai-produce ang concert ni Jessica Sanchez dito sa Pilipinas," Boy Abunda said.

"She's really brilliant. Alam niyo po mga kaibigan I've seen so many contests but Jessica Sanchez is one of the best singers na aking narinig sa buong buhay ko. Ang galing,"  he added.

Tito Boy was very proud with the achievements of Jessica that he even campaigns for the Fil-Mexican Idol contestant to become the very first Asian-Latina winner of the hit US talent search. 

"Iboto po natin si Jessica Sanchez sa 'American Idol.' Huwag po tayong papayag na hindi manalo ang batang ito because I think she is one of the best singers in the world, so hinihikayat natin ang ating mga kababayan sa Amerika at territories sa States, cast your votes for Jessica Sanchez," Boy ended.

It can be recalled that Boy Abunda and bestfriend Kris Aquino also produced the Philippine concert of Half-Pinoy half-Puertorican sensation, Bruno Mars last year.
