Glee Season 5 Premieres September 26; Tackles Cory Monteith's Death in Third Episode (Teaser)

Phenomenal musical TV series Glee will return on its fifth season starting September 26. The first teaser for the upcoming season was released Friday, just over a month after the passing of Cory Monteith who plays Finn Hudson.

According to reports, Glee will deal with Finn Hudson's death in the new season's third episode (scheduled October 10 before the show's hiatus for the baseball postseason) and will also pay tribute to the actor who played Finn, Cory Monteith, who died from a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol last month.

Glee creator Ryan Murphy said in a recent interview that it was very difficult to work straight for the 5th season after Cory's tragic death, especially that they will have to tape for the first two episodes—tribute to legendary band The Beatles—which should be fun and optimistic as planned.

So how will the show tackle Finn Hudson's death?

He told Deadline: "There were a lot of things that we had to decide—how are we going to deal with his death? At one point, we were going to have his character die after an accidental drug overdose—that was something we had considered."

"But we have decided that we’re not going to have him pass from that. Basically, what we’re doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died. The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we say very early on in the episode, 'This episode is about a celebration of that character’s life.'" 

"We loved Cory and we loved Finn and it feels like a huge loss and a huge heartache not to have either of them around. We’re trying to craft an episode that’s not just about us grieving but about a lot of the young fans grieving," Murphy added.

"Once again with feeling, drama, passion... Are you ready to go once again," said the first teaser of Glee season 5 (watch below).

Glee Star Cory Monteith Dead at 31

Glee star Cory Monteith was found dead in his hotel room at Vancouver's Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel Saturday, several reports have confirmed. He was 31.

"We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss," said his publicist, Melissa Kates.

According to reports, Cory Monteith, who plays Finn Hudson in the hit musical TV series Glee, was found dead at noon on the hotel's 21st floor. He checked into the hotel on July 6, and was expected to check out on Saturday. When he missed his checkout time at noon, hotel staff went to his room and found him.

The cause of Cory's death is still undetermined but Vancouver police said that there was no indication of foul play. An autopsy is scheduled on Monday to find out the reason for the Glee star's passing.

Police said that Cory had several guests on his hotel room at one point Friday night. However, hotel surveillance video caught him returning to his room alone early Saturday morning.

Cory Monteith admitted his struggles with substance abuse since he was 13. Early this year, he spent time in a rehab, checking into a drug addiction treatment facility in April. Vancouver police would not confirm yet whether any drug paraphernalia was found in his room nor this has something to do with his death.

Meanwhile, Glee executive producers, 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting Co. has released a statement on Cory's death.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."

Jessica Sanchez Joins Glee, Blake Jenner or Cory Monteith as Love Interest?

It's official! American Idol Season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez has been confirmed to join the 4th season of the hit Fox TV series Glee. It was last June when rumors regarding Jessica Sanchez joining Glee came out and now, TV Line has broke the news that Jessica will indeed appear on Glee for a multiple episode arc.

Jessica's recurring role in Glee is not yet revealed but Glee creator Ryan Murphy hinted for the kind of episode that will fit Jessica Sanchez. "Michael Ausiello broke news of Jessica Sanchez on Glee. With voices like Jessica, Lea, Naya, Melissa, Amber, and Jenna...Streisand episode?," posted Murphy via Twitter.

There have been rumors that Jessica Sanchez will be the new love interest of Finn (Cory Monteith), Rachel's ex now that the latter was in New York. Other write-ups pointed out for a possible Jessica and Blake Jenner tandem. Blake is the winner of The Glee Project season 2.

Filipino's will have another good reason to watch Glee after Charice's appearance as Sunshine Corazon in season 2. Aside from Charice and Jessica, three others with Filipino blood had appeared on Glee. They were Kent Avenido, Tamlyn Tomita and series regular, Darren Criss.
