2014 Philippine Holidays: Expect 4 Long Weekends

The MalacaƱang Palace has announced the list of nationwide holidays for 2013 through Proclamation No. 655, s. 2013 signed by Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III declaring regular holidays, special non-working holidays and special holiday for schools.

Filipinos can expect at least 4 long weekends this year as indicated by the official holidays. The number of long weekends can possibly increase after the proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eidul Adha has been issued. The approximate dates of the Islamic holidays will be determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient. 

Here is the list of official Philippine Holidays for 2014:

April 17 – Maundy Thursday
April 18 – Good Friday
May 1 (Thursday) – Labor Day

August 25 (Monday)  – National Heroes Day
November 30 (Sunday) – Bonifacio Day
December 25 (Thursday) – Christmas Day
December 30 (Tuesday) – Rizal Day
January 31 (Friday) – Chinese New Year
April 19 – Black Saturday
August 21 (Thursday) – Ninoy Aquino Day
November 1 (Saturday) – All Saints Day
December 24 (Wednesday) and
December 26 (Friday) – Additional special non-working days
December 31 (Wednesday) – Last day of the year

Long Weekends

January 31-Feb 2 – Due to Chinese New Year
April 17-20 – Due to Holy Week
Special Holiday (All Schools)
August 23-25 – Due to National Heroes Day
February 25 (Tuesday) – EDSA Revolution
December 24-28 – Due to Christmas Day

August 20, 2012 Declared A Holiday in the Philippines, Two Long Weekends Coming!

President Benigno S. Aquino III declared on Monday that August 20, 2012 is a regular holiday in the Philippines through Proclamation No. 455, s. of 2012 signed August 13.

August 20, 2012 was proclaimed a holiday to mark the end of Ramadan (Eid’l Fitr) which was traditionally declared a regular holiday to give our Muslim brothers and sisters a chance to observe their faith.
August 20, 2012 declared a regular holiday aside from August 21 and 27  (Two long weekends for August coming up)
With August 20, 2012 being declared as an official holiday, we can expect two consecutive long weekends. The day after Eid’l Fitr (August 21) is also a special non-working holiday deemed as Ninoy Aquino Day which marks the death anniversary of the late senator Benigno Aquino Jr.

August 27, 2012, by virtue of Proclamation No. 295 is also a regular holiday in celebration of National Heroes' Day, observed during the last Monday of August.

So there you go. Two consecutive long weekends coming our way. Start planning what to do during these times to make the long weekends productive and worthwhile.
