MYX Channel Introduces New VJs for 2012

Amultitalented educator and music lover, an adventurous “The Amazing Race Asia 4” runner-up, and an aspiring-MMA commentator and Muay Thai enthusiast have all been declared as the number one music channel’s newest flag-bearers.

According to Andre Allan Alvarez, Channel Head of MYX, the selection of the top contenders were different and stricter compared to the previous years. “MYX VJ Search 2012 was not the same because most of the ‘action’ happened online,” he explained. “With the emerging popularity of internet, it was a natural progression for the MYX VJ aspirants to engage with the MYX viewers and online users.”

Alvarez also stressed the reason why the production removed the public voting. “Even though their on-air personality is an important consideration, there are other qualifications that needed to be included in the selection and basically, ‘MYX VJ Search’ is a mere lengthy but fun job application,” he shared.

Recently at Red Box Eastwood, MYX chose its top three who stood out amidst a group of nine other worthy competitors.

One of the new faces of MYX is 25 year-old Kristine Camille Antonio a.k.a VJ K.A. This young and bubbly band vocalist also happens to keep herself busy as a pre-school teacher, host and make-up artist. She’s very musically inclined, showing much support for singing and composing songs, as well as enjoying the works of Maroon 5 and Adele. By becoming a MYX VJ, she will show that she’s ready to add more to her long list of credentials.

Also coming in to steal the spotlight is the adventurous and talented VJ Michelle Ng. She has already had the honor of participating in “The Amazing Race Asia 4” in which she made her way to the finale, managing to place as a runner-up. The stunning commercial model also loves the artistry of musicals and theater arts. A pure Singaporean, she has proven that she is a real Filipina-at-heart.

Completing the honor roll of the new MYX VJs is sports and music lover Michael Roland Mariano, or VJ Michael for short. The 21 year-old avid martial arts fanatic aspires to be an MMA commentator and sportscaster someday. Aside from sports, he also adores music, enjoying all styles and genres, especially the performances of Jesse McCartney and Elton John to name a few. With his unbeaten determination, he has landed to his success of becoming the next MYX VJ. Interestingly, he just accompanied a friend for the auditions but he emerged to be one of the “chosen few”.

Each finalist showed enormous talent and ability over the course of this search, gaining valuable experience alongside stiff competition and also forging new friendships.

MYX has been holding the only VJ search in the country since 2007 to provide young aspirants the opportunity of taking the lead on the music scene. “The search has no exact requirement. We aim to find diverse personalities that can bring out something unique for the MYX viewers and as the newest faces in the MYX scene, they will undergo a training that will make them even a better VJ,” said Alvarez.

MYX VJ Search 2012 Winners Revealed!

MYX Philippines announced the winners of the 2012 MYX VJ Search on the finals held at the Red Box in Eastwood Mall last night, July 14. The winners and now new MYX video jocks were Mike Mariano, K.A. Antonio and Michelle Ng. 

The winners had undergone several arduous task and bested 9 other contestants.

Sports lover Michael Mariano, now known as VJ Mike dreams of becoming a commentator one day, but first, he will try his hosting ability on the MYX stage.

VJ K.A., whose nickname stems from her real name Kristine Antonio, juggles herself in being a pre-school teacher, a host, a make-up artist, and a band vocalist. Now being a MYX VJ is just an icing in her long-list of credentials.

VJ Michelle (Michelle Ng) is from Singapore who already had a great adventure when she appeared in Amazing Race Asia Season 4, the season which was won by the Philippine Team, Rich Herrera and Rich hardin. Being a MYX VJ is a different yet equally-exciting adventure fro VJ Michelle.

Get To Know the 12 Finalists of the MYX VJ Search 2012

Competition heats up in the middle of the MYX VJ Search 2012 as the aspirants push hard to attain their dream of becoming one of the main faces of the number one music channel in the Philippines.

Topping this year’s search are 12 finalists who have different personalities but have the same yearning to be chosen as the MYX VJ.

VJ K.A., who juggles herself in being a pre-school teacher, a host, a make-up artist, and a band vocalist, wants to add being a MYX VJ to her long-list of credentials. VJ Karen’s sweet and bright personality can bring a smile to anyone and cited to be her edge in the competition.

The Singaporean-but-Pinoy-by-heart VJ Michelle already had a great adventure when she appeared in Amazing Race Asia Season 4 and now wants to try the MYX VJ scene, a different yet equally-exciting adventure. VJ Paulina, who inherited her wit and charm from her dad Vic Sotto, wants to have a name for herself and prove that she’s not just a champion golfer, but can also be a great VJ.

Being a sister to two band-inclined brothers – Yael of Spongecola and Yani of Pupil – VJ Ysab has a different career path in mind as she takes the spotlight through MYX. VJ Ericka already proved her talent in singing when she – and her sister – released their hit-song “12:51” but she has decided to follow her other passion – hosting.

On the other hand, bachelors are also contending for the spotlight in the competition. Having a tongue-in-cheek humor and a good fashion sense makes the sassy VJ Kevii a stand out among the crowd. Sports lover VJ Mike dreams of becoming a commentator one day, but first, he will try his hosting ability on the MYX stage.

Passionate and fun-loving UP Diliman student and music producer, VJ Mica is trying his luck of becoming the main man in the music scene by becoming a MYX VJ. Adding to this roster is charming Cebuano VJ Marcky who will not just capture everyone’s attention, but also make everyone love him through his jokes and funny lines.

VJ Hadi’s experience, on one hand, will just prove that hard work and patience will be paid off as he had auditioned for MYX VJ search three times before he had made the cut. Being a member of the boyband, 1:43, singing cutie VJ Anjo already has an army of girls screaming for him when he sings but he will now try to make all the people cheer for him when he hosts.

The finalists already underwent 8 arduous tasks that really proved their worth in the course of the competition. More surprising tasks will be featured in the most exciting VJ search in the country. Meet the 12 Finalists of the MYX VJ Search 2012

MYX is prepping up the stage for the next VJ that will conquer the MYX scene as the number one music channel in the Philippines launches the MYX VJ Search 2012. The nation’s premier VJ search is now on its 6th year; among the winners of the past installments of the competition are Chino Lui-Pio (2008), Bianca Roque (2008), and Joyce Pring (2011).

There may be hundreds of aspiring MYX VJ’s but only 12 complete the roster of MYX VJ Search 2012 finalists. They are:

Some of the finalists are not new to us. Among them are 3AM band member Mica Caldito who already appeared on ABS-CBN teleserye 1DOL and Ericka Villongco who is one of the voices behind the hit-song “12:51” (the other one is her sister Krissy). Others also came from a celebrity clan like Paulina Sotto, the daughter of Vic Sotto with Angela Luz, and Ysabel Yuzon who is a sibling to band members Yael and Yani Yuzon. 

For the past searches, some of the MYX VJ hopefuls won by the massive text votes coming from their fans but in this latest installment, the winners will solely be on the hands of MYX. But fans are still definitely involved, among MYX’s consideration in picking the winner is on how the finalists interact with the public and their fans. So, fan-finalist connection remains important.
