Pageant Spoof: Miss Universe 2012 Q&A Parody (Viral Video)

Check out the Miss Universe 2012 question and answer portion spoof below. The video is created and uploaded on YouTube by The Fierce Doll, the maker of Maria Venus Raj "major major" spoof and other pageant parody.

The said video had already gone viral, even making it to ABS-CBN's TV Patrol. In the video, the top 5 contestants of Miss Universe 2012 were spoofed in the Q and A portion, including Miss Philippines Janine Tugonon and Miss USA Olivia Culpo.

Miss Universe Candidates Believe Janine Tugonon is the True Winner

Miss Universe 2012 1st runner-up Janine Tugonon told reporters in a press conference held December 22 for her homecoming that several other candidates believed that she was the true winner of the Miss Universe crown.

According to Janine, many candidates came over her to tell that they believe she won the competition shortly after Miss USA Olivia Culpo was crowned Miss Universe on Thursday (Manila time).

"Nakakatuwa nga, halos lahat sila nag-hug, sabi nila, 'It is you, we know it's you, and you know it's you,'" said Janine Tugonon who arrived from Las Vegas early Saturday morning.

"Hindi ko na alam kung sinu-sino, pero madami," she added.

The outcome of the world's most prestigious beauty pageant was met with several "protests" from Filipinos and even foreign supporters of the Pinay beauty queen who couldn't help but make comparison of Janine and Olivia Culpo's performance in the question and answer portion.

Janine's roommate, Miss Indonesia Maria Selena is one of those who said that Janine deserved the crown.

"Si Indonesia, roommates kami eh, and we became very close, and right after the crowning, umiiyak siya, siya pa 'yung umiyak para sa 'kin. Umiyak siya kasi nakapasok nga ako, nagulat din siya sa results, pero sabi niya okay lang naman daw," JanineTugonon said.

Janine, however said that she's satisfied with her first runner-up finish since not many Philippine Miss Universe representatives reach the top 2. She also said that Miss USA might have won because of her spontaneity, beauty and she's already known to the Miss Universe Organization. 

Janine Tugonon's runner-up feat is the best finish of the Philippines in the pageant since 1999 when Miriam Quiambao won first runner-up in the 48th Miss Universe pageant held in Trinidad and Tobago.

Miss Universe 2012 Replay on Studio 23 and ABS-CBN

Philippines’ bet Janine Tugonon was hailed as the second most beautiful woman in the world after ending as the 1st runner up in the “Miss Universe 2012” pageant aired via satellite from Las Vegas,Nevada on ABS-CBN.

Miss USA Olivia Culpo took home the crown and is about to start her reign as the new “Miss Universe” replacing Angola’s Leila Lopes who won the title last year. Irene Esser Quintero of Venezuela ended up 2nd runner up; Renae Ayris of Australia was third runner up; and Gabriela Markus of Brazil was named 4th runner up.

Janine wowed the judges and the crowd in the swimwear competition with her fabulous figure and signature cobra walk that made her advance to the top ten.

Her elegant pose and unique yet graceful hand gesture also stole the show and stunned viewers in the evening gown portion. Watch the video of the Top 5 final question and answer portion here.

In the question and answer portion, Janine was interrupted by the audience’s applause while answering the final question asked by fashion photographer Nigel Barker: “As an international ambassador, do you believe that speaking English should be a prerequisite to being Miss Universe? Why or why not?”

The Filipina beauty confidently answered, “For me, being Miss Universe is not just about knowing how to speak a specific language. It’s being able to influence and inspire other people. As long as your heart wants to serve and you have a strong mind to show to people, then you can be Miss Universe.”

This is the second time the Philippines placed 1st runner-up in the world’s most prestigious pageant after Miriam Quiambao finished 1st runner up and lost the crown to Ms Botswana back in 1999.

To date, the Philippines has only won two Miss Universe titles, the first one in 1969 by Gloria Diaz and the second one in 1973 by Margarita Moran.

Janine is a 23-year old licensed pharmacist and a cum laude graduate of the University of Santo Tomas.

This marks the sixth year since 2007 that the Miss Universe Organization entrusted ABS-CBN as the home of Miss Universe in thePhilippines.

Video: Miss Universe 2012 Q&A Portion

The Miss Universe 2012 Pageant culminated December 19 (December 20, MLA time) in a glittering ceremony held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and Miss USA was crowned as the new Miss Universe. For the results and complete list of winners, click here.

The Top 16 was chosen from the scores given during the preliminary competition and come coronation night, the fate of these ladies were determined by a panel of telecast judges which includes Nigel Barker, Diego Boneta, Scott Disick, Brad Goreski, Cee Lo Green, Masaharu Morimoto, Ximena Navarrete, Pablo Sandoval, Lisa Vanderpump and Kerri Walsh Jennings.

The semifinalists then competed in the swimsuit round, trimmed to ten before being cut to five after the evening gown round. The Top 5 then moved to the final question and answer round.

Janine Tugonon in Miss Universe 2012 Q&A Portion

The Miss Universe 2012 Pageant night was held on December 19 (December 20 in Manila) at the Planet Hollywod Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and the home candidate, Miss USA Olivia Culpo was crowned the 61st Miss Universe (For the complete list of winners and related article, click here).

The Philippines' Janine Tugonon placed 1st runner-up, completing three-peat in the Top 5 of Miss Universe. She's just one question away from grabbing that Diamond Nexus crown and we knew she gave one of the best answers from among the Top 5 finalists. Anyhow, her feat elevated the Philippines to the elite club of top 5 three-peaters in the history of Miss Universe: USA, Venezuela and Puerto Rico.

Janine Tugonon was given a Twitter question from judge Nigel Barker: "As an international ambassador, do you believe that speaking English should be a prerequisite to being Miss Universe? Why or why not?"

She answered: "For me, being Miss Universe is not just about knowing how to speak a specific language. It's being able to influence and inspire other people. As long as your heart wants to serve and you have a strong mind to show people, then you can be Miss Universe."

With that alone, she could've won but the stars had already written Miss USA Olivia Culpo's fate. Janine Tugonon still made us Filipinos proud. Next year, hopefully will be the year for the Philippines to get its 3rd Miss Universe crown. It might be 'U' for the Miss Universe crown as we already had completed the quartet of Q-R-S-T placement in the said pageant.

Miss USA Olivia Culpo Wins Miss Universe 2012, Philippines' Janine Tugonon 1st Runner Up

The 2012 Miss Universe pageant night happened December 19 (December 20, MLA time) at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada and Olivia Culpo from USA was crowned Miss Universe. Leila Lopes of Angola crowned her successor at the end of the event.

Olivia Culpo bested 88 gorgeous ladies from different countries and territories around the globe. The Philippines completed the 3-peat in the Miss Universe with Janine's placement in the Top 5 and ending up as first runner up, a higher place finish than her predecessors, Venus Raj and Shamcey Supsup.

The year 2012 has been a very good year for the Philippines when it comes to pageants. Our bets in Miss World and Miss International placed in the semifinals. Elaine Kay Moll grabbed a 3rd runner-up finish in Miss Supranational. Stephany Stefanowitz and Andrew Wolff were both 1st runner up in Miss Earth and Mister World, respectively while the country won the title of Miss International Queen 2012 (Kevin Balot) and Manhunt International 2012 (June Macasaet).

This year, three grand slam pageants crowned the queens of the host country. Miss World which crowned Miss China was held in Inner Mongolia, China. Miss International held in Japan crowned Miss Japan while Miss Universe which was held in Las Vegas, USA crowned Miss USA.

Janine Tugonon Guests in FOX5 Las Vegas Talk Show, Does a Commercial for Australian Gold

Miss Universe-Philippines Janine Tugonon guested on FOX5, a local channel in Las Vegas with Miss USA, Olivia Culpo. The two beauties talked about an art auction, proceeds of which will be used to help children who can't afford attending to their medical needs.

Meanwhile, Janine Tugonon was also picked to do a commercial shoot for Australian Gold, a brand of outdoor sunscreen SPF lotion. The commercial was shot 1960's style and Janine was seen having fun and even dancing in the sun along with other Miss Universe contestants. Janine, who is the front image in the official YouTube video, is the only Asian candidate appearing in the said commercial.

Janine Tugonon Wears a Powder Blue Gown in Miss Universe 2012 Prelims, Applauded by Crowd

Miss Universe-Philipines Janine Tugonon surprised everyone with her cobra walk wearing a powder blue flowy gown during the Miss Universe 2012 preliminary competition on December 13 (December 14 MLA time). Watch Janine during the preliminary swimsuit competition.

Janine Tugonon, along with Misses Mexico, Karina Gonzalez and USA, Olivia Culpo were the most-applauded during the introduction of candidates, very much like a boxing match.

Here is a peek at Janine Tugonon's evening gown for Miss Universe 2012 preliminary competition. According to reports, the gown is another Alfredo Barraza creation, a Columbian designer who used to dress our representatives to the said pageant.

Miss USA 2012 Winner is Olivia Culpo from Rhode Island

Miss Rhode Island Olivia Culpo was crowned Miss USA 2012 at the 61st annual Miss USA Pageant held at the  Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, June 3 (June 4 morning in Manila). The pageant was hosted by Bravo's Andy Cohen and E!'s Giuliana Rancic.

The 20-year old Boston College student strutted gracefully with her purple swimsuit and gown but what really made her snatch the crown was her response to the final question which reads, "Would it be fair if a transgender woman won the Miss Universe title?"

"I do think that would be fair, but I could understand how people could be apprehensive to take that road...There are so many people who have a need to change for a happier life. I do accept that because I believe it's a free country," said Olivia Culpo to the delight of the crowd.

Miss Maryland Nana Meriwether end as runner-up followed by Miss Ohio Audrey Bolte, Miss Nevada Jade Kelsall and Miss Georgia Jasmyn Wilkins, to complete the Top 5.

Olivia Culpo will represent USA in the forthcoming Miss Universe 2012 pageant later this year. She will compete against the Philippines' Janine Mari Tugonon on the said pageant in December.
