The X Factor Philippines Top 20 Advances to the Judges' Home Round, Only 12 to Make the Final Cut

Posted on July 25, 2012 | 12:52 PM

The country’s biggest musical event of the year “The X Factor Philippines” finally named the top 20 contestants who will advance to the Judges’ Homes round of the competition.

Making it to the list of Boys (solo male performers 16-25 yrs old) are Anton AntenorCruz, Jeric Medina, Michael Pangilinan, Gabriel Anciano Maturan, and Kedebon Colim while Allen Jane Sta. Maria, Jerrianne Mae Templo, KZ Tandingan, Abigail Mendoza, and Angelica Prado made it to the Girls (solo female performers 16-25 yrs old) category.

Contestants aged 26 and above also prove to be strong contenders with Joan Da, Paulo Castro, Cristine Ledesma, Mark Mabasa, and Modesto Taran comprising the Over 25s (solo performers 26 yrs old and above).

Completing the top 20 are the Groups (16 yrs old and above) namely Daddy’s Home, 5th Avids, Take Off, Sweet Bliss, and Lucky Girls. The Lucky Girls are composed of five different solo female performers who didn’t quite make the cut in the Girls category. Judge-mentors Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Charice, and Pilita Corrales saw a lot of potential in them that they decided to merge them in one group so as to advance to the next round.

All 20 contestants will join their respective group mentors in their houses or the mentor’s location of choice where they will be thoroughly trained to become better performers. The competition definitely gets more exciting and eliminations gets even more dramatic as only 12 contestants— three from each category— shall advance to the next and final round.

Who will mentor the Boys, Girls, Over 25s, and Groups? Who will make the cut and who will bid goodbye as the judge-mentors finally name the top 12 finalists who must impress the public via the live shows?

Video: Michael Pangilinan, The X Factor Philippines Heartthrob Performs 'Wonderful Tonight'

Posted on July 15, 2012 | 10:16 AM

Michael Pangilinan's audition aired last night, July 14 on The X Factor Philippines. Michael Pangilinan, 16 years old,  captured the audience with his good looks and voice. Charice exclaimed that Michael has the total package.

Michael Pangilinan said he joined the X Factor to help his family and fulfill his dream of entering showbiz and eventually be a well-known singer. He did his rendition of Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight to the delight of the crowd. Fans scream and the judges were unanimous in bringing Michael to the Bootcamp round, giving him 4 nods. One good news to all the girls, he's sexy, free and single.

If he is familiar to you, then it was because you saw Michael Pangilinan in German "Kuya Germs" Moreno's Walang Tulugan and had already performed in several bar gigs with comedians Wally Bayola, Jose Manalo and Allan K.

According to reports, he was already one of the competition's Top 20 and will vie to get the slot in the Final 12 who will be on for the live performance shows. Another stand-out, KZ Tandingan may also be included in the finals (watch her live audition performances here).

Video: KZ Tandingan Impresses The X Factor Philippines Judges

On last night's episode (July 14) of The X Factor Philippines, we have met another stand-out contestant who easily captured the masses with her undeniably unique style and soothing voice. She was KZ Tandingan from Digos, Davao del Sur.

KZ Tandingan The X Factor Philippines

Twenty-year-old Kristine Zhenie "KZ" Tandingan earned a standing ovation from all the X Factor PH judges after hearing her rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow. She brought the house down with another performance, Ready Or Not (Can't Hide From Love) with a Tagalog rap twist after the audience asked for more.

KZ Tandingan joined The X Factor not just to help her family but also to prove that the music industry is not all looking for singers with good looks and belters.

Watch KZ Tandingan's amazing performance on The X Factor Philippines below:

KZ will be one of those frontrunners and I will not be surprised if she make it long in the competition and even emerging as the winner. After all, the judges wanted to guest on her first solo concert.

Tension Heats Up Between Gary V and Martin Nievera in 'The X Factor Philippines'

Posted on July 10, 2012 | 6:41 PM

Tension heated up in the country’s biggest musical event of the year, “The X Factor Philippines” last Saturday (July 7) after judge-mentors Martin Nievera and Gary Valenciano got into a small debate whether to put through an auditionee or not.
Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera The X Factor Philippines Judges

After Allen Sta. Maria of Cabanatuan City performed her piece, Gary and fellow judge Charice instantly voted yes while Martin said no.

Gary argued that the young girl has strong potential and her voice quality is current with what teenagers nowadays listen to but Martin remained unconvinced and thought that her performance fell short.

In the end, Pilita Corrales casted the deciding vote and sided with Gary and Charice. Martin was dismayed and argued with the judges once more while Allen went backstage and rejoiced with her family.

The task of spotting the ‘x factor’ is indeed getting tougher week by week. A single vote from the judge-mentors can make or break the chances of the country’s next singing superstar.

Charice Goes Face to Face with Former Rivals in 'The X Factor Philippines'

Posted on July 4, 2012 | 6:16 PM

Charice once again crossed paths with her former rivals in singing contests that she joined in the past.  But this time, she is sitting as a judge and the fate of her former rivals partly lied on her hands.

Charice on former rivals

In last Sunday’s “The X Factor Philippines,” Charice’s fellow judges Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, and Pilita Corrales were impressed that the international singing sensation remembered auditionees (one is Alyssa Quijano of Talentadong Pinoy's New Born Divas). Despite being the youngest judge in the show, Charice actively voices out her thoughts and carefully scrutinizes every hopeful so as to pick the ones who will proceed to next round and possibly be the next singing superstar of the country. Charice also continues to make buzz in the online world as more netizens watch what she is going to do in the show.

Osang
Last weekend, some hopefuls stole the limelight like 31-year-old stand up comedian Osang. At first glance, audiences would think he would belt out a ballad as she told the judges that he would be singing an emotional song. But to everyone’s surprise, Osang started head banging and singing like real rockstar. All judge-mentors were in awe and were totally blown out by Osang’s performance that all of them gave him a big yes to advance to the next round.

Another auditionee, 18-year-old Heley Vanessa Bayot, gave a tear jerking moment especially for judge Martin who cried while watching her give her own rendition to his song “Kahit Isang Saglit.” The young girl dedicated her soulful and heartfelt performance to her biological father who died because of cancer when she was just three years old.

Heley, together with Osang, will now advance to the Boot Camp stage of the competition. Will they be able to survive the next round?
