The first ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) was held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from March 28-30. The awards night happened at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching where the Philippines emerged as big winner, clinching four awards out of seven nominations.
Alessandra De Rossi was hailed as Best Actress for her performance in the film Sta. Niña which eventually won as Best Picture in the drama category. Anita Linda's performance in the said film also earned her the Best Supporting Actress award. Coco Martin and the film's director Manny Palo were nominated for Best Actor and Best Director, respectively.
Meanwhile, Bugoy Cariño won Best Supporting Actor for the film Alagwa where Jericho Rosales is nominated for Best Actor. The other Pinoy film nominated was Mga Kidnapper Ni Ronnie Lazaro which lost to Malaysia's Istanbul Aku Datang for Best Picture (Comedy).
