Angel Locsin is Darna in Star Cinema Movie, Malou Santos Confirms

Award-winning actress Angel Locsin will reprise her role as the Pinay superheroine Darna, but this time, it will be on the big screen. This was confirmed by Star Cinema managing director Malou N. Santos in an interview with Manila Bulletin.

Last year, ABS-CBN acquired the rights to several Mars Ravelo titles including Darna, Captain Barbell and Dyesebel. There are unconfirmed reports then about Angel Locsin reprising her role as Darna but it was not until today that the most-coveted 'stone' was confirmed to be bestowed still on Angel.

Angel Locsin has played Darna for television way back in 2005. Then GMA-7 did another TV version  in 2009 starring Marian Rivera.

When ABS-CBN bought the rights to famous masterpieces of Mars Ravelo, the initial thought is that they will be remaking them for television. However, recent developments revealed that the management is planning for movie remakes of these works.

According to Ms. Malous Santos, Star Cinema is already done with the script regarding Darna's past and currently brainstorming for the continuation of the story. The film outfit is targeting next year for the start of filming.

So there you are. It's official that Angel Locsin will be playing Darna in a movie version by Star Cinema. Angel is very deserving for the role that even Marian Rivera (who already played Darna) approved of Angel's Darna reprise (read story here).

Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera Project Still A Secret; Photos Go Viral

Two of the biggest stars today, Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera are collaborating in a big project which will be unveiled in due time. On what project will it be, both camps were silent for now.

On Thursday, Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera had a pictorial for a still undisclosed project. It may sound impossible but the pictorial photos which had gone viral will prove that indeed, these two superstars from rival networks will be teaming up for a project.

Both have played the iconic role of Darna on television and fans always pit them against each other, igniting a rivalry. However, just like Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos, professional rivals can be friends in real life. 

There's a limited information on what Angel and Marian will be doing together and we can only speculate. For sure, this won't be a teleserye as the two belong to rival networks. A movie will be a good guess since both can appear in a co-production (e.g. Star Cinema and Regal Films). The highest probability will always be in an endorsement deal—a TV commercial perhaps. However, according to sources, the pictorial is for a magazine.

KC Concepcion is Darna, Jericho Rosales is Captain Barbell

Actress-host KC Concepcion and actor Jericho Rosales took on the role of the Filipino heroic icons Darna and Captain Barbell during the opening number of ASAP 18 on Sunday, July 28.

Jericho Rosales, donning Captain Barbell's yellow suit, was revealed as the alter-ego of the weak boy Teng, played by Sam Concepcion after the latter raised the magic barbell. Meanwhile, KC Concepcion appeared first as the ordinary Narda before she delivered the immortal line "Ding, ang bato!" to emerge as the superheroine Darna.

Rayver Cruz also played one of Mars Ravelo's superheroes, Lastikman in the ASAP opening dance number while Iya Villania, John Pratts and Arron Villaflor played the villains.

Since ABS-CBN has acquired the exclusive rights to the popular works of Mars Ravelo, including Darna and Captain Barbell, do you think KC and Echo are fit to portray these iconic superheroes when the network starts production of their own remake?

ABS-CBN has yet to choose who will portray Darna and Captain Barbell, but KC, Angel Locsin, Cristine Reyes, Sarah Geronimo and Jessy Mendiola have been considered by many as potential perfect fits for Darna while Echo, Gerald Anderson, Sam Milby, JC De Vera, Joseph Marco and Luis Manzano have been considered to be potential Captain Barbell.

Is Kim Chiu the ABS-CBN Darna? Actress Dons Darna Costume on ASAP

ABS-CBN has acquired the rights to remake Mars Ravelo's famous works including the Pinay superheroine Darna. Since the project was already a go and was launched in the recent ABS-CBN trade event, many are now on the guessing game on who will be the heir to the stone and shout "Darna!"

On Sunday's episode (May 12) of ASAP 18, actress Kim Chiu had the chance to wear the Darna costume  A photo of Kim donning the sexy Darna costume has gone viral in social networks after it was uploaded by ASAP on instagram.

In the special edition of ASAP Supahdance, Kim along with Shaina Magdayao, Empress, Iya Villania and Cristine Reyes danced and performed Darna stunts. Notice that Kim had the most challenging stunts. However, it was Cristine Reyes who literally fly as Darna.

Angel Locsin's Darna Reprise Gets Approval from Marian Rivera

Kapuso star Marian Rivera gave her seal of approval to Angel Locsin's possible reprise of Darna now that ABS-CBN has acquired the rights for a TV and film remake of the popular Mars Ravelo's character.

Angel Locsin has played the role of Darna on television in 2005 when she was still with GMA-7 while Marian Rivera also played the role in a Kapuso Darna TV remake in 2009.

"Okay lang, ganoon naman talaga eh," Marian was quoted as saying by entertainment website PEP, when asked for her comment on Angel Locsin's possible reprise of the Darna character.

"E, Nakailang ulit na rin ang Darna, ang Dyesebel, ang Captain Barbell, so ganoon talaga ang routine. Ito ngang Temptation of Wife, Koreanovela, nakatatlong palabas na, uulitin na naman, e. So ganun lang ang buhay, paulit-ulit," she added. 

Marian Rivera also did the remake of Mars Ravelo's Dyesebel which is reportedly being remade again by ABS-CBN, as well as the iconic Pinoy superhero, Captain Barbell. The lucky ones who will play these roles, however, are still not named.

In an earlier interview with ABS-CBN news, Angel Locsin said that she is ready to play Darna again if ever ABS-CBN would give the role to her in the future.

"Ako si Darna talaga. Pero sinurender ko ang bato noon so hindi ko alam kung ibabalik pa sa akin ang bato. Hindi ko alam, hindi pa ako makapagsalita doon kasi siyempre management po ang magsasalita doon and nothing is final pa naman," said Angel.

"Natutuwa naman ako kasi nakikita ko 'yung suporta ng mga Darna fans sa akin. 'Yung mga tao na wini-wish na sana ako pa din si Darna. So tignan natin, sabi nga nila kung sino ang mapalad sa kanya ibibigay 'yung bato," she added.

Is Angel Locsin already preparing to play the role of Darna? With Angel losing weight and regaining her sexy figure, many are speculating that the award-winning actress is now getting ready to put on the sexy superhero costume again. 

In an interview with ABS-CBN news during the launch of her newest endorsement, Angel Locsin said that she is ready to play Darna again if ever ABS-CBN would give the role to her in the future.

"Ako si Darna talaga. Pero sinurender ko ang bato noon so hindi ko alam kung ibabalik pa sa akin ang bato. Hindi ko alam, hindi pa ako makapagsalita doon kasi siyempre management po ang magsasalita doon and nothing is final pa naman," said Angel.

Last year, ABS-CBN has acquired the rights to do a TV and movie remake of the works of Mars Ravelo including Darna, Captain Barbell and Dyesebel and in the past few months, netizens have been debating on who are the rightful names to play these famous characters, be it on TV or movie. Angel Locsin is the favorite to play Darna and last August, there have been reports that Star Cinema has decided to give Angel the role. Angel, though did not confirm the news saying that there's no official announcements yet.

"Actually ngayon pa lang ako natanong about Darna, so ngayon pa lang sa akin nagsi-sink in. Parang hindi pa kasi ganoon kaseryoso, nabalitaan ko lang siya. Parang kumakalat na pala siya even sa Twitter at Facebook at natutuwa naman ako kasi nakikita ko 'yung suporta ng mga Darna fans sa akin. 'Yung mga tao na wini-wish na sana ako pa din si Darna. So tingnan natin, sabi nga nila kung sino ang mapalad sa kanya ibibigay yung bato."

"So tingnan natin kung pareho pa bang Darna ang makikita. Pero hindi fair kung maaga akong magsasalita kasi wala pa namang final or hindi pa din napi-present talaga yung story. Pero ewan ko, okay naman kasi 'yung naiwan ko bilang Darna before. So lahat pinag-iisipan namin," added Angel.

ABS-CBN's Darna is Angel Locsin?

It's been a year since ABS-CBN acquired the rights to cassic Mars Ravelo's masterpieces like Darna, Captain Barbell and Dyesebel and rumors on who will be playing these characters on TV were abuzz nowadays.

These followed after Star Creatives' Roxy Liquigan posted the following tweet last week, confirming that the Kapamilya network's Darna remake ('Lipad Darna Lipad') will start soon.

Many netizens embark on online debates via various social networking sites on who has the 'K' to play ABS-CBN's Darna. Rumors are spreading that the network has already chosen the one that will be playing the role and the fans' top 2 choices are Angel Locsin and Cristine Reyes.

There are reports claiming that Angel Locsin was confirmed to play Narda and will reprise her role as Darna in the big screen. It is unsure, however, if ABS-CBN will do both a movie and TV version of the classic Pinay super heroine but clues now were pointing out to a TV remake.

If the report is true, Angel will certainly be a good choice for the movie remake having been trained in action scenes and having played the role once on television. Some say that Cristine will be the one to do Darna on TV while others linger on the thoughts that Cristine will play Dyesebel opposite Gerald Anderson, who was reported to be paired with the sexy actress in a new teleserye.

Last year, ABS-CBN had acquired the rights to the different masterpieces of Mars Ravelo including the famous Darna, Captain Barbell and Dyesebel. These 3 are the most remade of Ravelo's works, the last of which were from GMA-7 played by its prime talents, Marian Rivera and Richard Guttierez. 

Speculations are now abuzz on who will be playing these characters now that the Kapamilya network had the rights for a remake. According to reports, there are rumors that Cristine Reyes was the one chosen to play Darna which was once played by Angel Locsin and Marian Rivera.

There are also reports that it is Gerald Anderson who will play ABS-CBN's Captain Barbell while Andi Eigenmann will be the Kapamilya Dyesebel.

Although nothing is confirmed yet, we can assume that these actors really fit their designated roles. Cristine exudes the sexiness of Darna and Gerald's matinee idol looks and muscled body will also be a good fit for Captain Barbell's suit while Andi is already a creature of the sea after Agua Bendita.

What's more exciting to see is how they will attack on the roles previously played by Kapuso stars. A comparison is always given so it is interesting how ABS-CBN will create their own mark and flavor to these famous works of Mars Ravelo to make it different from previous remakes of rival GMA.
