36th Gawad Urian 2013 Winners | Jericho Rosales and Nora Aunor Get Top Acting Plums

The 36th Gawad Urian 2013 awards night was held last June 18, 2013 at the NBC Tent, Taguig. Jericho Rosales was hailed as the Best Actor for his role in Alagwa (Breakaway) while Nora Aunor got another Best Actress trophy for the film The Womb.

Here are the winners of the 36th Gawad Urian 2013:
  • Best Film – “Ang Paglalakbay ng mga Bituin sa Gabing Madilim” by Arnel Mardoquio (Produced under Cinema One Originals by Skyweaver Productions)
  • Best Actress – Nora Aunor (“Thy Womb”)
  • Best Actor – Jericho Rosales (“Alagwa”)
  • Best Director – Adolfo Alix, Jr. (“Mater Dolorosa”)
  • Best Screenplay – Mes de Guzman (“Diablo”)
  • Best Cinematography – Whammy Alcazaren (“Colossal”)
  • Best Production Design – Brilliante Mendoza (“Thy Womb”)
  • Best Editing – Aleks Castañeda (“Kalayaan”)
  • Best Music – Diwa de Leon (“Baybayin”)
  • Best Sound – Willy Fernandez, Kristine Kintana, and Lav Diaz (“Florentina Hubaldo, CTE”)
  • Best Short Film – “Ritmo” by Remton Siega Zuasola
  • Best Documentary – “Harana” by Benito Bautista
  • Best Supporting Actor – Art Acuna (“Posas”)
  • Best Supporting Actress – Alessandra de Rossi (“Sta. Niña”)
  • Special Award for Film – “Natatanging Gawad Urian” – Mila del Sol
This year’s winners were honored in a grand awards night event directed by Arnel Natividad, with a program written by Joseph Chris Violago and produced by ABS-CBN Special Projects group.

Catch the 36th Gawad Urian Awards night on television on Cinema One on June 22 at 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., June 23 at 10:00 p.m., and June 26 at 7:00 p.m.

ASEAN International Film Festival (AIFFA) 2013 Winners: Bugoy Cariño, Alessandra De Rossi Bag Top Acting Plums

The first ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) was held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from March 28-30. The awards night happened at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching where the Philippines emerged as big winner, clinching four awards out of seven nominations.

Alessandra De Rossi was hailed as Best Actress for her performance in the film Sta. Niña which eventually won as Best Picture in the drama category. Anita Linda's performance in the said film also earned her the Best Supporting Actress award. Coco Martin and the film's director Manny Palo were nominated for Best Actor and Best Director, respectively.

Meanwhile, Bugoy Cariño won Best Supporting Actor for the film Alagwa where Jericho Rosales is nominated for Best Actor. The other Pinoy film nominated was Mga Kidnapper Ni Ronnie Lazaro which lost to Malaysia's Istanbul Aku Datang for Best Picture (Comedy).

Inaugural ASEAN Spirit Award:

Best Student Short Film:

"Ren Shaon" (Singapore)

More than 100 films from Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, USA, India, Russia, and Australia participated in AIFFA, the next edition of which will be held in 2015.

Rafael Rosell Transfers to GMA-7, Next Kapuso Leading Man of Marian Rivera

Rafael Rosell is set to become a Kapuso to be Marian Rivera's leading man. The hunk actor is reportedly signing a contract with GMA-7 next week.

According to reports, Rafael will be the leading man of Kapuso primetime queen Marian Rivera in the remake of the hit Koreanovela Temptation of Wife which will also star Dennis Trillo and Alessandra De Rossi. He will also had a guest role in Aso ni San Roque prior to this big remake project.

Rafael Rosell, a former Star Magic artist is now under the management of Popoy Caritativo, the manager of Marian Rivera and Dennis Trillo. 

Before deciding to transfer to the Kapuso netwrok, Rafael Rosell was last seen in the ABS-CBN teleserye Dahil Sa Pag-ibig opposite Denise Laurel, her long-time onscreen partner. The series also stars Piolo Pascual, Jericho Rosales, Cristine Reyes, Maricar Reyes and Christopher De Leon.

He also had his starring role in the PHR series Midnight Phantom still with Denise Laurel (now dubbed as the queen of PHR and starring in its latest oferring, Pintada).

Coco Martin Back to Indie Films via Cinemalaya's Santa Niña

Prince of Indie Coco Martin is back where he started as an actor with an indie film entitled Santa Niña. The movie is one of the competing films in the 2012 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival happening this July 20-29.

Santa Niña is about a two-year old child who was a victim of the lahar in Bacolor, Pampanga way back in 1995. Ten years later, the child's remains were excavated and people were surprised that the body was still intact and had not gone decomposition. The people believed that the child's body was miraculous and since then, the child's father (Coco Martin) worked for the child's sainthood.

Coco Martin will be joined by award-winning and veteran actors in Santa Niña including Alessandra De Rossi , Angel Aquino, Irma Adlawan, Leo Martinez, Nanding Josef, Lui Manansala and Ms. Anita Linda.

Santa Niña is directed by Emmanuel 'Manny' Palo.

Meanwhile, Coco Martin's movie with Angeline Quinto was a success, grossing P29.7 million in just 5 days. He is currently busy with his top-rated series, Walang Hanggan which is reported to be returning with a 'Book 2.'
