ABS-CBN Scores 7-0 versus GMA-7 in 2013 Anvil Awards

ABS-CBN Corporation won a total of seven Anvil Awards, considered as the Oscars of the public relations industry in the country, and making it as the most-awarded TV network in this year’s race for its outstanding PR programs and tools.

The Kapamilya network’s necrological services that paid tribute to an entertainment icon, campaigns for the silver anniversary celebrations of its flagship primetime TV newscast and an AM radio station, relief operations for typhoon victims, station ID that highlighted the uniqueness of Pinoy summer, and an internal campaign that engaged ABS-CBN employees through various services were awarded by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines.

“Salamat, Tito Dolphy,” ABS-CBN’s necrological service and tribute to the King of Philippine Comedy staged within 24 hours after Dolphy’s death won for efficiently harnessing the company’s people and resources and brought together Dolphy’s family, friends, colleagues, and even competing TV networks and media organizations. More than 6,000 fans attended the event that was carried out with no glitches.

ABS-CBN Regional Group’s online advocacy campaign “Choose Philippines” earned recognition for successfully engaging online users to share their local adventures and tourism discoveries in the country.  Since the site went live in April 2011, the website’s page views have reached more than 2.4 million total page views and continues to grow especially after the success of its promotional music video campaign “Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas,” sung by Angeline Quinto and Vincent Bueno.

ABS-CBN Foundation Inc.’s “Sagip Kapamilya” was cited for its “Sagip Kapamilya Ondoy Relief Operations,” which raised funds and provided relief and rehabilitation for the victims of typhoon Ondoy.

“TV Patrol” won an Anvil for its integrated multimedia campaign “TV Patrol: 25 Taon ng Pagbabalita” that celebrated ABS-CBN’s primetime newscast’s achievements in setting the news agenda, actively engaging in nation building, exposing irregularities and shortcomings of public offficials, and doing public service that helped the nation recover from man-made and natural disasters.

Similarly, the leading AM radio station DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 won for its year-long 25th anniversary celebration “DZMM SilveRadyo” that culminated with a concert at the Araneta Coliseum and reinforced how it has remained true to its slogan “una sa balita, una sa public service” for more than two decades.

ABS-CBN’s 2012 summer station ID “Pinoy Summer Da Best Forever,” created by ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management, won for painting a picture of how Filipinos are proud of their heritage and values as reflected in the various festivals of the country.

Lastly, ABS-CBN Internal Communications, under the Corporate Communications Division, won an award for engaging the employees through various communication tools and activities that strengthened their affinity as Kapamilya and making them the company’s best brand ambassadors.

ABS-CBN won a total of seven Anvil awards vs TV5’s three and GMA with none.

The Anvil Awards is an annual event organized by the PRSP that honors outstanding public relations programs and tools. Prior to the Anvil Awards, ABS-CBN earned eight recognitions for its PR programs from the Philippine Quill Awards given by the International Association of Business Communicators. ABS-CBN was the most-awarded TV network in both Anvil and Quill Awards that honor the best works in public relations and business communications.

ABS-CBN Bags Six Araw Values Awards (2012)

ABS-CBN reaped six recognitions in the recently held 2012 Araw Values Awards including the Platinum award in the advocacy institutional advertising division for the Philippine tourism music video “Piliin Mo ang Pilipinas” produced by the ABS-CBN Regional Network Group.

ABS-CBN was again the most awarded TV network. The winning music video was created for ABS-CBN RNG’s “ChoosePhilippines” website and was interpreted by shadow theater group and “Pilipinas Got Talent 3” grand finalist El Gamma Penumbra.

“It has always been an honor to win in the Araw Values Awards because it is not just about brand building but it is also nation building,” said Robert Labayen, head of ABS-CBN Creative Communications Management that is behind the award-winning music video.

Since Labayen assumed his post in 2004, ABS-CBN has already won three Platinum awards in the Araw Values Awards. When asked what set ABS-CBN’s works apart, Labayen credited it to the genuine hearts of the people working for each and every campaign they launch.

“It is not the skills of the creative person that matters but his or her heart. I want them to genuinely care for the country and for the family so that they can also be able to genuinely touch the emotions of our audience,” explained Labayen. “When we create a campaign, we pay tribute to the Filipino people. It’s not how good we are as a network. It’s more of how good the Filipino people are.”

The “Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas” music video, sung by Angeline Quinto and Vincent Bueno, successfully promoted the Araw values of Love of Country and Respect for National Customs and Tradition for showcasing thePhilippines’ beautiful tourist destinations, friendly people and unique culture. The campaign was widely recognized by Filipino worldwide that they created their own versions of the music video and uploaded it online. Even Tourism Secretary Mon Jimenez asked ChoosePhilippinesto help the DOT in its new “It’s More Fun in thePhilippines” tourism campaign.

Apart from the Platinum award, ABS-CBN also won two Silver and three Bronze awards in the Advocacy Institutional Advertising Division. “BMPM Tayo Na” won silver in the Commitment to Truth, Honesty, and Integrity category, while “Pagbangon: Traffic Enforcer” won in the Respect for Law and Authority and the Promotion of Self-Discipline category.

Meanwhile, “Pinoy Summer Da Best Forever” took home the Bronze award for the Love of Country and Respect for National Customs and Traditions category; “Pagbangon: Kapatid” for the Respect and Care for Human Life and Dignity and the Rights of All; and “Mural” for the Concern for and Preservation of Environment.

The Araw Values Awards is a prestigious award that not only recognizes the craftmanship and production values among advertising materials, but also the values it reflects particularly the seven Araw Cornerstone Values. Winners were selected by a panel of jurors composed of members of the Advertising Board, ASC, and Ad Foundation; respected foundations and non-profit organizations; the academe; and select government and international agencies and institutions.

El Gamma Penumbra Featured in Choose Philippines 2012 Music Video

Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3 grand finalist, El Gamma Penumbra is on the new music video of Choose Philippines' campaign song, Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas sung by Angeline Quinto and Vincent Bueno. The shadow play act from Tanauan City, Batangas had since been making shadow acts that showcase the beautiful Philippines and as what Kris Aquino commented on their PGT performances, they can do a very good  promo for the Department of Tourism.


This time El Gamma Penumbra delivered another performance that will give goosebumps to all. I personally got my hair raised the first time I saw the video yesterday at its launching in ASAP 2012.

The said video showed the natural wonders and beauty of the Philippines, including famous Pinoy traditions and food through the group's famous shadow play. This video is another campaign of Choose Philippines, a travel website dedicated to providing accurate and up-to-date information about the places, food, and culture of the Philippines from a uniquely Filipino perspective.

The said website is pioneered and maintained by broadcast giant, ABS-CBN using the resources of its Regional Network Group (RNG).
