Zanjoe Marudo: Comedy is More Challenging than Drama

Posted on June 28, 2012 | 6:16 PM

Hunk actor Zanjoe Marudo admitted that he’s more comfortable with serious acting and that compared to veteran comedians, he still has a long way to go.

Zanjoe Marudo

“It’s really difficult to make people laugh. Many people think that it’s harder to do drama but for me, comedy is more challenging.”

In “Kimmy Dora and the Temple of Kiyeme” where he portrayed as Barry, Zanjoe said that he didn’t feel too much pressure because he was with great actors. Even Eugene Domingo, lead actress in the film, said that Zanjoe’s acting was great.

In “Banana Split” where he regularly tries his best at comedy, he said that if you’re comfortable with the people you’re with, your acting will come out more natural. “We’re almost like brothers and sisters in the show. We help each other,” he said.

Meanwhile in “Banana Split” this Saturday (June 30), watch out for “More Pun in the Philippines” where the cast will sing songs about the different places of the country. In “Hot Issue”, the gang will spoof Angeline Quinto’s search for her biological mom and Ruffa’s walkout in a talk show.

Catch Banana Split this Saturday (June 30) after “TODA Max” on ABS-CBN.

Joey De Leon and Eugene Domingo's Tuhog, Star Cinema's MMFF Entry?

Posted on June 3, 2012 | 7:50 AM

Last Friday, rumors surfaced that Star Cinema will be betting on Joey De Leon and Eugene Domingo for their 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry. The said movie of Joey and Eugene, according to online reports has a working title Tuhog.

Eugene Domingo and Joey De Leon for Star Cinema's MMFF entry Tuhog?
Will there be a Joey-Eugene tandem for 2012 MMFF?
Early reports claimed that a big movie starring Kris Aquino, Vice Ganda and Ai Ai Delas Alas will be Star Cinema's entry for MMFF but with this new rumor, it seemed that a change of plan has happened.

If ever this rumor is true, then we can expect a battle between Vic Sotto and Joey De Leon for this year's MMFF. Vic will be doing a movie with senator Bong Revilla and Judy Ann Santos for MMFF. There will also be a competition between Judy Ann, Eugene and the superstar Nora Aunor for awards since Ate Guy's Thy Womb is reportedly being groomed as an MMFF entry.

If Tuhog will be the final title of Joey and Eugene's rumored movie, then it will be of the same title with Jeffrey Jeturian's 2001 film starring Jaclyn Jose, Ina Raymundo, Irma Adlawan, Klaudia Coronel and Dante Rivero about a true-to-life story of an incest-rape that is translated into a big screen project (a film inside a film).

But we guess, Joey and Eugene's movie will be comedy of sorts or can be combined with an element of horror, just like Eugene's Kimmy Dora and the Temple of Kiyeme, which she is now promoting.

Sam Concepcion and Tippy Dos Santos Kiss for A Movie

Posted on April 8, 2012 | 10:58 AM

Actor-singer Sam Concepcion had his very first big screen kissing scene with Tippy Dos Santos for the upcoming musical film, I Do Bidoo Bidoo. Tippy and Sam are long-time friends and theater colleagues, working together in several musicals including the much celebrated Peter Pan where Sam played the title role and Tippy played Wendy.

Sam revealed in his Push.com.ph interview that there is the feeling of awkwardness when he and Tippy did the kissing scenes for the movie. Since he and Tippy had known each other for a long time, the first on-screen kiss would feel different even though they are very close friends.

In the movie, Tippy will get impregnated by Sam at the age of 21, the jumping point in the story. Since Tippy came from a well off family and Sam from a middle class one, the struggles between the two different families will keep the vibe of the musical film.

Sam and Tippy will work with big actors/singers like Eugene Domingo, Ogie Alcasid, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Gary Valenciano in I Do Bidoo Bidoo. The film is a sort of a tribute to APO Hiking Society since all the songs that will be used are APO songs.

I Do Bidoo Bidoo is directed by award-winning writer/director, Chris Martinez under Straight Shooters Media.
