Posted on February 13, 2014 | 11:35 AM

Eugene Domingo, the lone Filipino nominee in this year's awards, will be up against Han Hyo-joo (Cold Eyes, South Korea), Paw Hee Ching (Rigor Mortis, Hong Kong), Yoko Maki (The Ravine of Goodbye, Hong Kong), at Zhang Zi Yi (The Grandmaster, Hong Kong/Mainland China) for the award.

This is the second time that the Pinay comedienne was nominated in the Asian Film Awards which is dubbed as the Asian Oscars. In 2012, Eugene was nominated for Best Actress at the 6th Asian Film Awards for her role in Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank. She bagged then the People's Choice Award for Best Actress while compatriot Shamaine Beuncamino won Best Supporting Actress for Niño.

Last year, Nora Aunor and Eddie Garcia took home the top acting honors from the same award-giving body, for Thy Womb and Bwakaw, respectively, marking the first time that the Philippines bagged both the Best Actor and Best Actress awards in Asian Film Awards.

Gina Pareño is the first Filipino to win an award in the said Hong Kong based award-giving body, bagging the Best Supporting Actress trophy in 2009 for her performance in Brillante Mendoza‘s Serbis.

The 8th Asian Film Awards 2014 awarding ceremony will be held on March 27, 2014 at the City of Dreams Casino Resort in Macau.

Ai Ai Delas Alas and Eugene Domingo, Successful in Career but Unlucky in Love

Posted on January 1, 2014 | 6:50 PM

Comedy icons Ai-Ai delas Alas and Eugene Domingo are undeniably successful actresses. However, both of them admit that they are unlucky when it comes to their love lives in “Tapatan Ni Tunying” this Thursday (Jan. 2).

Ai Ai Delas Alas and Eugene Domingo

Ai-Ai’s relationships have been widely publicized through the years. Her two failed marriages made headlines, including her controversial 29-day marriage with businessman Jed Salang in early 2013.

“At my age, I want someone who will stay at my side until I grow old. It was just painful that it didn’t last,” Ai-Ai says referring to her marriage to Jed.

The 49-year old comedy queen admits that growing old alone is one of her biggest fears, but claims that she already learned from her experience. She says she realized the deeper importance of marriage, and promised that she will never jump into it without thinking thoroughly and listening to her friends’ and loved ones’ advice.

“Marriage is not a solution to save an already failing relationship,” she says.

Meanwhile, not many people know that 42-year-old Eugene has never been in a serious relationship.  For her, it was not a priority when she was busy building her career as a theater, television, and film actress.

“Every year, I list down my goals in life. For instance, I want to make movies for film festival, to do a play… Then I noticed that I never wrote about my love life,” Eugene shares.

Eugene was on a roll in 2013, completing six movies including the prequel of the popular film “Kimmy Dora,” which has been showcased in the recent Metro Manila Film Festival.  This year, will Eugene take a step back to finally focus on her love life?

“I achieved and even surpassed my goals as an actress. Of course, I am also thinking that the end of the day, after all the success in my career, I will still want to have one. I hope it’s not too late,” she says.

Ai-Ai and Eugene also comically talk about their struggles and triumphs as successful comediennes in this episode.

Posted on December 26, 2013 | 12:12 PM

The 39th Metro Manila Film Festival Gabi ng Parangal (MMFF 2013 awards night) will happen Friday, December 27 at the Meralco Theater in Pasig City. Eight films will be vying for the coveted awards.

http://bidakapamilya.blogspot.com/2013/12/mmff-2013-awards-night-list-of-winners.html

KC Concepcion was among the favorites to win the Best Actress trophy for her daring role as a femme fatale in Boy Golden: The Arturo Porcuna Story requiring her to do action and sexy scenes.

KC will be in a tight battle against Diamond star Maricel Soriano as the mother of a quadruplets with different genders in Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy and Eugene Domingo as the twins Kimmy and Dora in the prequel of the successful Kimmy Dora series.

Aside from these three, Aiza Seguerra of My Little Bossings and Kathryn Bernardo of Pagpag are also considered for the award.

Meanwhile, Vice Ganda's exemplary performance as a girl, boy, gay and lesbian in the movie Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy made him a strong contender for the Best Actor award. Vice will be up against Gov. ER Ejercito of Boy Golden, Robin Padilla of 10,000 Hours and Rocco Nacino of Pedro Calungsod: Batang Martir.

Vic Sotto of My Little Bossings and Sef Cadayona of Kaleidoscope World could also do well and score an upset over the favorite Best Actor contenders above.

The MMFF Awards night is a huge factor in boosting ticket sales for movies announced as winners, especially the Best Picture. However, this is not usually the case as viewers tend to watch the movie which they feel will give them great comfort.

Sam Milby Replaces Piolo Pascual in 'Kimmy Dora' Prequel; Plays Leading Man to Eugene Domingo in MMFF 2013 Entry

Posted on August 17, 2013 | 10:22 AM

Singer-actor Sam Milby will replace fellow Kapamilya Piolo Pascual as Eugene Domingo's leading man in Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel, an official entry to the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2013).

Sam Milby Replaces Piolo Pascual in 'Kimmy Dora' Prequel | Plays Leading Man to Eugene Domingo in MMFF 2013 Entry

Piolo Pascual has to begged off from the project because of his busy schedule. However, he will still co-produced the movie via Spring Films, a production venture of Piolo, talent manager Erickson Raymundo, Shayne Sarte, and director Joyce Bernal.

He can't do the movie anymore because of his schedule kasi may ginagawa rin siyang mga pelikula ngayon. So meron kaming mga kailangang habulin schedule at hindi na siya nagma-match, so nag-decide naman kami to allow him not to do it na rin," Erickson Raymundo told ABS-CBN News.

Piolo Pascual, aside from being busy promoting for the internationally acclaimed film On the Job which opens August 28 in cinemas, is also filming for his first movie with actress Toni Gonzaga. The said project will also star Iza Calzado.

Both Eugene and Piolo were very happy that Sam accepted the role. Sam revealed that he was a big fan of the Kimmy Dora movies, that's why he was equally excited and pressured of doing the film since he knew that it has already established a lot of following.

Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel will take place a few years before the first Kimmy Dora film. The last installment of the Kimmy Dora trilogy, the movie will be a combination of mystery and comedy--more like a James Bond kind of movie gearing towards Austin Powers, Eugene revealed.

Eugene Domingo on Toni Gonzaga: "Tupperware"

Posted on July 14, 2013 | 6:16 PM

Comedienne Eugene Domingo indirectly called multimedia star Toni Gonzaga as "plastic" after Toni mistakenly called her as Eugene Dominguez on her The Buzz guesting Sunday, July 14.
Toni Gonzaga and Eugene Domingo

The Buzz host Toni Gonzaga interviewed Eugene, who is promoting her upcoming movie Tuhog under Skylight Films, the independent film arm of Star Cinema. While mentioning the names of the cast, Toni had blundered on Eugene's surname.

Toni blushed in embarrassment after the incident which forced Eugene to throw jokes about the matter. She got back on Toni by changing her surname to Gonzales. The latter even stood up and showed Toni how large her name was written on the monitor and other promotional posters in the studio.

In defense Toni said that she just inadvertently mixed-up Eugene's surname with that of co-star Leo Martinez, the reason her mouth blurted Eugene Dominguez.

Meanwhile, Eugene, kidding aside, said that Toni Gonzaga endorsing "Tupperware" is just perfect, since she was claiming as Eugene's friend yet she doesn't know the latter's surname.

Knowing Eugene as a comedienne, the comment was made to save Toni from further embarrassment and lighten up the situation. She even clarified to all that her name is "Eugene Domingo" before the show went to a gap. Watch the video below.

Eugene Domingo and Toni Gonzaga became close on the set of Wedding Tayo, Wedding Hindi, a 2011 Star Cinema movie which also stars Zanjoe Marudo and Wendell Ramos.

'Tuhog' Starring Eugene Domingo, Enchong Dee, Empress, Jake Cuenca and Leo Martinez Opens July 17

After the hilarious comedy Bromance: My Brother's Romance which will hit theaters on May 15, Skylight Films and Star Cinema proudly present Tuhog, a dark comedy movie starring Eugene Domingo, Enchong Dee, Jake Cuenca, Empress and Leo Martinez.

'Tuhog' Starring Eugene Domingo, Enchong Dee, Empress, Jake Cuenca and Leo Martinez Opens May 29

In Tuhog, Eugene Domingo plays the role of Fiesta, a bus barker who turned spinster out of dedication to take good care of his demented father. Her life changes after she met Nato (Jake Cuenca), a driver who won her heart but with a dark secret.

Leo Martinez is Tonio, a retired old man past his prime who risked his pension to fulfill his dream of becoming a baker. Meanwhile, Enchong Dee plays Caloy, a young man who vowed to preserve his virginity for his girlfriend Angel (Empress), who also agreed to give her virginity only to Caloy. However, long distance relationship and a new guy in Angel's life challenged Caloy's faithfulness to the said pact.

The title of the movie, Tuhog (which may sound erotic to some) stemmed from an accident which pierce three of the characters in a single steel bar. That mishap tied the lives of Fiesta (Eugene Domingo), Tonio (Leo Martinez) and Caloy (Enchong Dee) together.

Who will be given another chance to live and make things right? And whose life is really bound to end?

According to Eugene Domingo, Tuhog's script is one of the best she had read for a long time and given a chance to compete in international film festivals, the award-winning actress said that Tuhog's screenplay will have a good chance of winning.

Written by Veronica Velasco and Jinky Laurel and also directed by Veronica Velasco (Last Supper No. 3 which won Best Film in 2009 Cinemalaya), Tuhog will open in theaters July 17, 2013.
