31st Luna Awards 2013 Winners | Angel Locsin Wins Best Actress, The Mistress Big Winner

The 31st Luna Awards (2013) happened June 1 and the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) has given 12 Luna trophies to outstanding films and people behind the successful movies of the year.

31st Luna Awards 2013 Winners

Star Cinema's The Mistress was big winner of the night, clinching half of the trophies given away. It won Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Actor for John Lloyd Cruz, Best Supporting Actor for Ronaldo Valdez and Best Supporting Actress for Hilda Koronel. 

Angel Locsin won Best Actress, her fourth Best Actress trophy for her performance in One More Try. Meanwhile, the last five awards were brought home by El Presidente, including the most coveted Best Picture award.

31st Luna Awards 2013 Nominees: The Mistress and One More Try Get Most Nominations

The Film Academy of the Philippines has announced the final nominees in the 12 categories of the 31st FAP Luna Awards 2013. The Mistress, garnering 11 out of 12 nominations (missing only in the production design category) and One More Try (with 8 nods) led all the nominees this year.

Angel Locsin will once again vie against Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos, as well as Angelica Panganiban, Pokwang and Bea Alonzo in the Best Actress category while Dingdong Dantes will be competing against Coco Martin, Eddie Garcia, John Lloyd Cruz and Aga Muhlach for Best Actor.

'Bwakaw' is PH Official Entry to the 2013 Oscars

Bwakaw which stars Eddie Garcia and a dog named Princess is the Philippines' official entry to the best foreign language film category of the 85th Academy Awards (2013 Oscars).

The said indie film by acclaimed director Jun Robles Lana was chosen by the Film Academy of the Philippines special committee to be the country's representative to the prestigious Oscar Awards.

'Bwakaw' is Philippines' Official Entry to the 2013 Oscars

Bwakaw was one of six films in the Directors’ Showcase category of the last Cinemalaya Film Festival. It  was also invited in several international film festivals such as the Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival.

Rated A by the Cinema Evalution Board, Bwakaw is a drama-comedy about growing old alone. It shares the life of Rene (played by Eddie Garcia), a 75-year-old gay man whose life suddenly turns around when a stray dog named “Bwakaw” teaches him a lesson about life.

Also starring Rez Cortez, Soxie Topacio, Armida Siguion-Reyna, Gardo Versoza, Beverly Salviejo, Luz Valdez, Alan Paule, Bibeth Orteza and Joey Paras, Bwakaw is distributed by Star Cinema for commercial release starting September 5, 2012.

Bwakaw actually bested seven other films which were also considered for possible nomination by the special committee like Jose Javier Reyes’ Mga Mumunting Lihim, Brillante Mendoza’s Captive, Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story, Auraeus Solito’s Busong, John-D Lazatin’s A Mother’s Story, Ron Morales’ Graceland and Joyce Bernal’s Segunda Mano.

30th Luna Awards 2012 Winners Unveiled, Maja Salvador Gets 2nd Best Actress Trophy

The 30th Luna Awards (2012) happened August 26 at the Quezon City Sports Club and the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) has given the Luna trophies to outstanding films and people behind the successful movies of the year.

Maja Salvador brought home her second Best Actress trophy after her win in the 2012 Gawad Urian Awards for playing the title role of Thelma while Gov. ER Ejercito won the Best Actor award for Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story, which garnered 5 other awards. Thelma was also another big winner with 4 awards, including Best Actress and Best Director for Paul Soriano.
