ABS-CBN Grand Slam Winner in Student Awards

ABS-CBN scored a grand slam win as Best TV Station from various different student award-giving bodies and earned a total of 107 awards in combined television and radio categories, making it the network of choice among most students and teachers.

ABS-CBN was recognized as the Best TV Station at the University of the Philippines-Los Banos’ 8th Gandingan: UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Broadcast Choice Awards;  University of Santo Tomas’ 10th USTv Students Choice Awards; Holy Angel University’s 1st Paragala Central Luzon Media Awards; Polytechnic University of the Philippines’ (PUP) 1st Mabini Media Awards; and 12th Gawad TANGLAW awarded by academicians from Jose Rizal University, Philippine Women’s University, University of Perpetual Help System, Colegio De San Juan de Letran, and other member schools.

Aside from the Most Development-Oriented TV station award given by UPLB to ABS-CBN, the institution also recognized ABS-CBN’s AM radio station DZMM and FM station MOR 101.9 as Best AM and FM stations. ABS-CBN bagged a total of 21 awards versus GMA’s 19 from the Gandingan, which annually recognizes programs and personalities that strive to promote development-oriented issues.

UST, on the other hand, once again gave out the Student’s Leader’s Choice of TV Network award after years of hiatus and gave it to ABS-CBN as the university celebrates its 10th year of recognizing  programs and personalities that promote Thomasian values in harmony with the Catholic teachings. ABS-CBN again was the most-awarded TV station with 16 USTv awards against GMA’s eight.

Now on its 12th year, the Gawad TANGLAW (Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw) honored ABS-CBN with a total of 18 awards vs GMA’s ten and TV5’s six. ABS-CBN received the major awards, including the TV Station of the Year and Best FM Station for Tambayan 101.9 (now MOR 101.9).

Holy Angel University in Pampanga recently conducted its 1st Paragala Central Luzon Media Awards where it handed a total of 13 awards to ABS-CBN vs GMA’s 11. ABS-CBN is the first TV network to receive Paragala’s Best TV station award.

PUP also held its 1s Mabini Media Awards in February where ABS-CBN was also the runaway winner with 20 awards vs GMA’s nine. PUP, recognized as the country’s largest university in terms of student population, honored the Kapamilya Network with the TV Station of the Year award and AM Radio Station of the Year award for DZMM.

Aside from UPLB, UST, Gawad TANGLAW, Holy Angel, and PUP, students from Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) also awarded ABS-CBN with 13 recognitions from their 5th NwSSU Students Choice Awards for Radio and TV, while the Lyceum of the Philippines University gave ABS-CBN six awards in its first UmalohokJUAN! Awards.

12th Gawad Tanglaw 2013 Winners: ABS-CBN TV Station of the Year; Coco, Gerald and Judy Ann Best Actors and Actress

ABS-CBN wins big at the 12th Gawad Tanglaw 2013 Awards held Friday night. The Kapamilya network was also hailed TV Station of the Year.

Coco Martin and Judy Ann Santos won Best Performance by an Actor and Actress, respectively for their roles in their series Juan Dela Cruz and Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala, which also bagged the Best TV Series award.

Meanwhile, Gerald Anderson won Best Single Performance by an Actor for his portrayal in an episode (Bituin) of Asia's longest drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya.

11th Gawad Tanglaw for Movies 2013 Winners: Zanjoe Marudo is Best Supporting Actor

The winners of the 11th Gawad Tanglaw Awards for Movies (2013) have been revealed and Zanjoe Marudo won Best Supporting Actor, his first for the movie One More Try. The Kapamilya actor tied with Allen Dizon for his role in Migrante.

Meanwhile, Jericho Rosales added another feather on his cap after winning the Best Actor award for the movie Alagwa (Breakaway). His portrayal in the said internationally-acclaimed movie also won for him this year's Gawad Urian Best Actor trophy.

Tied with Echo as Best Actor is Dingdong Dantes, who has been collecting acting trophies for his performance in the movie One More Try. The 2013 Gawad Tanglaw Best Actress award went to no less than Nora Aunor of Thy Womb.

ABS-CBN Wins 82 Awards from the Academe; Choice of Students and Professors

ABS-CBN is the most awarded TV network by the academe as it swept the awards given by five different university award-giving bodies, including Gawad Tanglaw’s Best TV Station of the Year and three Hall of Fame awards.

ABS-CBN proved to be the runaway choice of students and professors after receiving 82 awards for its radio and TV personalities and programs from the scholars and teachers of Gawad Tanglaw (Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw), which comprises of Jose Rizal University, Philippine Women’s University, University of Perpetual Help System, Colegio De San Juan de Letran and other universities, University of Sto. Tomas’ USTv Students’ Choice Awards, St. Scholastica College Manila’s Hildegarde Awards for Women in Media and Communication, Northwest Samar State University (NWSSU)’s Students’ Choice Awards for Radio and TV, and the University of the Philippines-Los Baños’ Gandingan: Isko’t Iska’t Broadcast Choice Awards.

The 11th Gawad Tanglaw awarded ABS-CBN a total of 26 awards, while GMA only received 13 and TV5, four. ABS-CBN also received the most number of trophies, 20 at the USTv Awards, while GMA and TV5 only got 10 and one, respectively.

Educational program “Matanglawin” and DZMM’s “Aksyon Ngayon” anchored by Kaye Dacer and Julius Babao received recognition at the Hildegarde Awards for their outstanding achievement in broadcast journalism.

ABS-CBN also won 13 honors at the NWSSU Awards, while it won 21 awards from UP Gandingan in January, including the top plum, Most Development-Oriented TV Station and Best AM Station for DZMM.

“Be Careful With My Heart” lead stars Jodi Sta. Maria and Richard Yap received the loudest cheer from the audiences in both Gawad Tanglaw and USTv Awards, which were both held last March 7.

The entire cast of the top-rating program attended the awarding ceremonies to personally thank the crowd for their continous support and accept the Best Daily Local Soap Opera and Best Ensemble Performance awards in USTv and the Best Ensemble Performance and Best TV series in Gawad Tanglaw.

Meanwhile, “Umagang Kay Ganda,” “Maalaala Mo Kaya” and “DZMM” were inducted in Gawad Tanglaw’s Hall of Fame for Best Morning Show, Best Drama Anthology, and Best AM Radio Station after having received the said accolades in five years.

Kapamilya stars stole the show at the Gawad Tanglaw led by Gerald Anderson, who received the perfect birthday gift, his Best Performance by an Actor award for “Budoy.” Coco Martin also won the same award for “Walang Hanggan.”

ABS-CBN vs GMA vs TV Tally of Awards from the Academe

ABS-CBN swept all drama acting categories, with Helen Gamboa and Janice de Belen receiving the Best Performance by an Actress honors for “Walang Hanggan” and “Budoy.” Carlo Aquino and Dimples Romana were also granted their Best Performance by an Actor at Best Performance by an Actress awards for their portrayal in separate “MMK” episodes.

USTv Award’s biggest winner was Angel Locsin, who bagged the first ever Students’ Leader Choice of TV Personality for being a good role model who excels in her craft and helps people through charitable works.

Queen of All Media Kris Aquino was hailed the Student’s Choice of Talk Variety Show Host for “Kris TV,” while director Chito Rono was recognized for his work in Star Cinema’s “The Healing” which was named Students’ Choice of Local Full Length Film.

ABS-CBN also conquered the News and Current Affairs categories in both Gawad Tanglaw and USTv. In Gawad Tanglaw, Pinky Webb was selected the Best News Anchor, “TV Patrol Weekend” the Best news Program, “Rated K” the Best Magazine Show, and “SOCO” the Best Investigative Program. ANC, on the other hand, emerged as this year’s most awarded news channel with four awards, while GMA News TV got two.

In USTv, Ted Failon was awarded the Students’ Choice of Male News and Current/Public Affairs Host for “Failon Ngayon,” which won the Students’ Choice of Investigative Program. “The Bottomline” prevailed as the Students’ Choice of Public Affairs Show, “Ako ang Simula” as the Students’ Choice of Public Service Program, and “TV Patrol” as the Students’ Choice of Local News and Current/Public Affairs Program.

10th Gawad Tanglaw 2012 Winners Revealed, ABS-CBN Won Top Honors

Gawad TANGLAW (Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw) give trophies to outstanding to outstanding movies, TV shows and radio programs in the 10th edition of its annual honor list. In celebration of its 1st decade as an award-giving body, it also names 11 artists dubbed as 'Pinaka Kapuri-puring Artista ng Dekada.'

The chosen stars are Cesar Montano, Coco Martin, Allen Dizon, Sid Lucero, Emilio Garcia, Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor, Gina Pareño, Ms. Anita Linda, Dr. Rustica Carpio, and Cherry Pie Picache.

In the film category, the satirical comedy, Ang Babae sa Septic Tank, has earned four accolades in 10th Gawad TANGLAW. This Eugene Domingo-starrer earned the following awards: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Screenplay. 

This group of academicians chose ABS-CBN as the TV Station of the Year. Coco Martin is honored for having the Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama Series for ABS-CBN's Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin. Meanwhile, child actress Xyriel Manabat was able to beat other senior stars for the category Best Performance by an Actress in a Drama Series. Xyriel won for mimicking an adult for the Kapamilya teleserye 100 Days to Heaven. 

In the television arts, ABS-CBN won 14 trophies while its sister station ANC earned three accolades, GMA-7 bagged five awards, while TV5 won two trophies. PTV4 was also honored with one award.
