Posted on March 2, 2014 | 9:27 AM

Pinoy boxer Genesis "Azukal" Servania retained his WBO Intercontinental junior featherweight crown after beating former world champion Alexander "El Explosivo" Munoz at the main event of Pinoy Pride XXIV held March 1 at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Paranaque City.

Pinoy Pride 24 Results: Servania Beats Munoz via 12th Round TKO

Servania scored a knockdown against Munoz on the second round and won most of the early rounds. An accidental head butt in the 8th round created a cut on Servania's left eyebrow which made him difficult to follow-up. However, the Bacolod-born fighter continued on chasing Munoz.

Servania scored another knockdown in the ninth round before finally stopping the Venezuelan boxer in the final round with a big right hand to the jaw. This gave the Pinoy a technical knockout (TKO) win at the 2:22 minute of the 12th round (watch the video of KO moment here).

Genesis "Azukal" Servania improved his record to 24-0, 10 KOs, while Alexander "El Explosivo" Munoz dropped his record down to 36-6, 28 KOs.

In the undercard bouts, "Prince" Albert Pagara knocked out Indonesian fighter Isack Junior with left hook and a right straight to the body in the first round. The 19-year-old boxer now has an impressive record of 19-0, 12 KOs.

Meanwhile, "King" Arthur Villanueva came out the boxing ring victorious after beating Fernando Aguilar of Mexico. The Filipino fighter won by unanimous decision in their 10-round contest. Villanueva retained his undefeated record (25-0, 14 KOs).

Pinoy Pride XXIV: The Future is Now airs Sunday, 10:15 am on ABS-CBN Channel 2 and at 8:30 pm on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23.

Posted on February 26, 2014 | 8:25 PM

ALA Boxers will once again showcase the future of Philippine boxing as they battle in the ring via “Pinoy Pride XXIV: The Future is Now” to be held at Solaire Resorts and Casino on Saturday (March 1) at 6pm.

The main card will feature Genesis Servania (23-0) as he looks to extend his winning streak against former World Boxing Association (WBA) super flyweight champion Alexander “El Explosivo” Munoz (36-5, 28 KO). Servania will not only battle against age and experience, but will face a knockout (KO) master who has KO’d 28 opponents in 36 wins.

Servania has been honing his craft since his teenage years and has found success in the sport, winning all his bouts since entering the world of boxing.

“I was pushed by my father to get into boxing.” said Servania in an interview. “My siblings were already into boxing, even my sister. He pushed me to hopefully help in the household and to stay away from vices.”

The 22-year-old Pinoy will be coming off a second-round knockout win against Panama’s Rafael Concepcion. Servania will move a step further in his career as he looks to prove his prowess in boxing against a seasoned veteran in Munoz.

“We’ve been watching tapes of our opponents and have been training non-stop,” said Servania when asked if he and his fellow ALA Boxers are ready for their respective bouts. “We’re ready for them.”

Together with the other Pinoy boxers that make up “Pinoy Pride XXIV: The Future is Now”: Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo. Prince “Albert” Pagara and Melvin Gumban, catch the special telecast on Sunday (March 2) on ABS-CBN Channel 2  at 10:15 am and on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel at 7 pm. Also catch the cable telecast on Balls Channel, Monday (March 3) at 5 pm.

Pinoy Pride XIV: Donnie 'Ahas' Nietes vs Felipe Salguero on ABS-CBN this June 3

Posted on May 30, 2012 | 3:35 PM

WBO light flyweight champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes will once again showcase his venomous punches as he defends his belt against Mexico’s Felipe Salguero, in “Pinoy Pride XIV: Night of Champions” on June 2.

Nietes, who is one of five Filipino world champions alongside Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire, Brian Villoria, and Sonny Boy Jaro, seems poised to slither his way to the pound-for-pound rankings, as world famous trainer Freddie Roach once claimed that Nietes has the best hands among all the Filipino fighters he has trained next to Pacquiao.

Nietes, who holds a record of 29-1-3 (16 KOs), is like most Filipino boxers who started dreaming big at a very young age. He started out as a janitor and a utility boy for the ALA Boxing Gym. One of his daily tasks included cleaning and feeding his boss Tony Aldeguer’s five pythons, thus acquiring the moniker “Ahas.”

Armed with the will and courage from his daily endeavors with the snakes, Nietes asked ALA (Antonio Lopez Aldeguer) if he could try his hand in boxing. The Negros Occidental native immediately seized the opportunity and began pushing himself to the limit during training.

Eventually, all the hard work paid off in 2007 when he trounced Pornsawan Porpramook for the vacant WBO minimumweight title.

Perhaps Nietes draws the biggest inspiration today from his nine-month-old baby girl, Dionne Nicole Nietes, as he wisely puts his money in various businesses such as a small piggery, and an agrivet business. And with the help of Tony Aldeguer, Nietes also invested in a house which his father and uncle built with their own hands.

Outside the ring, Nietes’ world does not mainly revolve around boxing, as he is also active in biking and is actually a member of the Bike Talk Friendship Club.

It seems like there is no stopping the meteoric rise of “Ahas,” together with Genesis “Azukal” Servania, and Milan “El Metodico” Melindo, as they carry the whole nation behind their backs and ascend to the top of boxing’s mountain in “Pinoy Pride XIV: Night of Champions.”

From the Resorts World Manila Newport Performing Arts Theater, the bout will be shown via satellite on ABS-CBN on June 3, Sunday 10:15am, with replays on Studio 23 on the same day at 1:30pm, and on Balls Channel on Friday, June 8 at 4:00pm.
