ABS-CBN Widens It's Reach In More Than 10 Provinces

Posted on September 8, 2012 | 4:19 PM

ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest and leading multimedia conglomerate, has started expanding its reach nationwide building more than ten new relay stations and enhancing the TV and radio coverage of its existing regional stations.

Peñafrancia Festival: Watch out for Jodi Sta. Maria, Richard 'Papa Chen' Yap, Maja Salvador, Joem Bascon and Coco Martin

ABS-CBN Regional Network Group (RNG) head Louis Benedict Bennett said ABS-CBN will soon expand in areas such as Oriental Mindoro, Davao Oriental, Antique, and Negros Occidental while the TV power upgrades and antenna retrofit enhancements in Tacloban, Dagupan, Baguio, Bacolod, and Cagayan de Oro are underway.

“We are thrilled to announce that ABS-CBN will pioneer the building of new stations in these areas. These new relay stations will also receive locally produced shows, something the rival networks don’t have,” said Bennett.

The local shows produced by ABS-CBN RNG include newscasts, morning programs, game shows, and local public service programs that feature homegrown talents and stories that happen in their region.

For instance, he pointed out that ABS-CBN RNG’s youngest regional station in Palawan already airs locally relevant news and original content through “TV Patrol” and “Mag TV Na.”

To date, the Kapamilya network has the most expansive regional reach in the country with its established stations in Luzon (Appari, Batanes, Tuguegarao, Baguio, Pampanga, Dagupan, Batangas, Laoag, Isabela, Naga, Legazpi, and Palawan) Visayas (Cebu, Bacolod, Tacloban , Roxas, Kalibo, Dumaguete, and Iloilo) and Mindanao (Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Zamboanga, Iligan, Cotabato, Dipolog, Koronadal, and General Santos).

Some of today’s hottest Kapamilya stars, meanwhile, will celebrate the Peñafrancia Festival with Bicolanos at the Plaza Quezon, Naga City this Saturday (September 8) at 4:00 p.m. Stars of the top-rating daytime show “Be Careful With My Heart” Richard Yap and Jodi Sta. Maria, together with “Walang Hanggan” stars Coco Martin and Joem Bascon, and Maja Salvador will add fun to the fest through games and musical performances.

The stars will visit to thank loyal viewers for making the Kapamilya channel the leading TV network nationwide. Data from Kantar Media show that ABS-CBN obtained an average audience share of 43% nationwide on total day viewership, or 12 points higher than rival GMA’s 31%. ABS-CBN’s primetime block (6PM-12MN) also reigned in Total Luzon, hitting an average primetime share of 43% vs GMA’s 32%. In the Visayas, ABS-CBN’s primetime viewership averaged 56% vs GMA’s 25%, while in Mindanao, it registered 62% as compared to GMA’s 18%.

TV Patrol 25th Anniversary Party Airs this August 5 on Sunday's Best

Posted on August 2, 2012 | 4:14 PM

The anchors and reporters of “TV Patrol” took a timeout from news reporting to entertain and show off their creative chops to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the country’s leading newscast last Friday (July 27) at the Manila Hotel.

As if to show that journalists know how to have fun, “TV Patrol” anchor Noli ‘Kabayan’ de Castro serenaded the crowd and Korina Sanchez crooned the Filipino classic “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko” in “25 Taong Patrol ng Pilipino: The TV Patrol Silver Anniversary Special” to be aired on Sunday (August 5), 11 p.m. on ABS-CBN.

TV Patrol Anchors

Also turning the heat up the dance floor were “TV Patrol Weekend” anchor Pinky Webb and Star patrollers Gretchen Fullido, Phoemela Baranda, Ginger Conejero, and Marie Lozano, who turned in an alluring salsa performance.

The audience also erupted with laughter from the comic duets of Tony Velasquez and Kitkat, Marc Logan and Cacai Bautista, Doris Bigornia and Leo Martinez, and Henry Omaga-Diaz who was noticeably nervous in his song number with comedienne Ethel Booba.

Besides the stellar performances, the celebration also honored the pioneers and past newscasters of “TV Patrol” such as the late Angelo Castro Jr., Rolly V. Cruz, Frankie Evangelista and Ernie Baron whose awards were received by their respective families.

The star-studded event, which was attended by the biggest newsmakers in the country, also revisited the biggest news reports delivered by TV Patrol’s bold reporters as well as the stories that inspired and brought hope to the nation.

“‘TV Patrol’ reflects the condition of our country, what needs to be changed, and what needs to be stopped. We will work with Filipinos in their fight to make their lives better, to uphold democracy, and to celebrate victories,” said ABS-CBN chairman and CEO Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III.

Kapamilya stars also shone in the event with performances from Dulce, Vina Morales, Basil Valdez, Bituin Escalante, Jed Madela, Gloc-9, Freddie Aguilar and the Watawat Band, Pepe Smith, Erik Santos, Angeline Quinto, Jovit Baldivino, and Marcelito Pomoy.

Don’t miss “25 Taong Patrol ng Pilipino: The TV Patrol Silver Anniversary Special” hosted by ‘Kabayan,’ Korina, and Ted Failon this Sunday (August 5) after “Gandang Gabi Vice” on ABS-CBN. For information and updates, follow @TVPatrol on Twitter or like www.facebook.com/tvpatrol.abscbn.

PNOY's Speech at the 25th Anniversary of TV Patrol (July 27, 2012)

Posted on July 28, 2012 | 10:37 AM

President Benigno S. Aquino III graced the 25th (Silver) Anniversary of TV Patrol on July 27, 2012. His speech on the said event created buzz because of criticizing TV Patrol anchor Kabayan Noli De Castro (watch the full video here).

Here is the full transcript of PNOY's speech at the TV Patrol 25th anniversary:

Talumpati
ng
Kagalang-galang Benigno S. Aquino III
Pangulo ng Pilipinas
Sa ika-25 anibersaryo ng TV Patrol

[Inihayag sa Manila Hotel noong ika-27 ng Hulyo 2012]

Mr. Gabby Lopez; Mrs. Charo Santos-Concio; Ms. Ging Reyes; Senator Frank Drilon; Senator Loren Legarda; Secretaries Mar Roxas, Greg Domingo, Ricky Carandang; Chairman Francis Tolentino; Bangko Sentral Governor Sy Tetangco; Mayor Alfredo Lim; Representative Sonny Angara; Commissioner Ruffy Biazon; Commissioner Kim Henares; Chair Sixto Brillantes; past and present officials and staff of TV Patrol and ABS-CBN; fellow workers in government; honored guests; mga minamahal ko pong kababayan:

At sa pagkalap ng kaalaman, ang bukambibig noong isang bida, and I quote, “Just the facts, Ma’am.”

[Applause]

Video: PNOY Slams Kabayan Noli De Castro in TV Patrol Silver Anniversary Party Speech

President Benigno S. Aquino III slammed former Vice President and TV Patrol anchor Kabayan Noli De Castro during his speech at the 25th Anniversary Party of TV Patrol held July 27 at the Manila Hotel.

In his speech, PNOY criticized Noli De Castro for supposed baseless speculation and commentaries against the administration despite his 6 years stint in the government. Although the president did not mention any name, reading between the lines will suffice for anyone to conclude that it was Kabayan, being an ex-government official.

President BenignO S. Aquino III slams Kabayan Noli De Castro at the TV Patrol 25th Anniversary Party
PNOY said that in an October 2011 story on TV Patrol, a reporter talked about a 20% increase in passenger arrivals at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3. The President said that Noli De Castro (without naming him) then retorted, “Nasa NAIA 3 ka kasi.

PNOY also used Kabayan Noli De Castro's signature line:

The President on his speech called for a balanced media reporting and stop what he called as 'daily negativism' which make our news programs somewhat like a horror film series. PNOY ended his speech by asking for understanding for his being frank that night.

TV Patrol Celebrates 25th Anniversary With A Special Documentary

Posted on July 27, 2012 | 8:49 PM

ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs marks the 25th anniversary of “TV Patrol” with a special documentary that highlights its vibrant history and evolution and confronts the controversial issues the country’s number one television newscast has had to face.

TV Patrol 25 anchors Kabayan Noli De Castro, Korina Sanchez and Ted Failon

Titled “Mga Nagbabagang Balita: 25 Taon ng TV Patrol,” the documentary will revisit the newscast’s creation and the memorable stories that defined the program and helped shape Philippine contemporary history to be shown on Sunday (July 29) on ABS-CBN.

Speaking for the documentary, ABS-CBN chairman and CEO Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III shared how the pioneering news program made a difference on TV news broadcasting and how it became a daily viewing habit by millions of Filipinos in the country. He said it posted “unusually” high ratings compared to any program shown after its timeslot when it was launched.

“Originally, the common thinking was, it was the primetime entertainment programs that generated the most significant revenues. In the case of ‘TV Patrol,’ it was the highest rating and highest grossing program in its early years,” said Lopez.

And years since, it has remained as the country’s undisputed, number one newscast in the country. “TV Patrol” is still the most-watched newscast with a national TV rating of 31.8%, or almost twice higher than rival “24 Oras” with 17.6%, based on the June 2012 data from Kantar Media.

Ging Reyes, head of ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs, also stressed how the newscast has become part of Filipino’s everyday lives and Pinoy pop culture. “People are afraid to be reported on TV doing unlawful activities. ‘O, baka ma-TV Patrol ka.’ ‘Naku, ayokong ma-TV Patrol!’ That’s the biggest mark it has left on us as a nation,” she said.

Being a part of the program has also compelled Noli ‘Kabayan’ de Castro, who anchors “TV Patrol” with Korina Sanchez and Ted Failon, to go out in the field and look for his own stories instead of just reporting them from the studio.

“I don’t want to be called a news reader. I am a newscaster. I want to know what’s happening and I know when something is important enough to share with the viewers. I get to know what people want. That’s what happens in ‘TV Patrol,’” he said.

The documentary will also revisit some of the biggest news stories the past 25 years such as the 1990 earthquake, Mt. Pinatubo eruption, coup attempts, etc.

“Mga Nagbabagang Balita: 25 Taon ng TV Patrol” is part of TV Patrol’s silver anniversary celebration, which also included the “TV Patrol Grand Reunion,” “TV Patrol Balitandaan,” and a fund-raising venture called “Beinte Singko Para sa Kabayan Ko.”

Don’t miss “ Mga Nagbabagang Balita: 25 Taon ng TV Patrol” this Sunday (July 29) after “Gandang Gabi Vice” on ABS-CBN Sunday’s Best.

SOCO Now at an Earlier Timeslot Before Failon Ngayon and TV Patrol on Saturdays

Posted on July 12, 2012 | 5:49 PM

ABS-CBN will give its viewers a news and information-fortified Saturday as it boosts its late afternoon block featuring “SOCO: Scene of the Crime Operatives,” “Failon Ngayon,” and “TV Patrol Weekend” starting this Saturday (July 14).

SOCO: Scene of the Crimes Operatives
More Filipinos will be able to watch Gus Abelgas search for justice as the country’s premier crime investigation program “SOCO: Scene of the Crime Operatives” moves to an earlier timeslot on Saturdays at 4 p.m.

Gus said the shift will not only attract more viewers for the program but also ignite vigilance, concern, and awareness among Filipinos of the extent of criminality in society.

“It’s time they became part of our community’s campaign against crime and violence. From ‘SOCO,’ viewers will learn to be responsible, watchful, and might even encourage them inform authorities of any wrongdoing. They will not only be interested in the program but also in the resolution of the featured cases,” Gus said.

For its first weekend offering, Gus investigates a notorious religious sect founded by Antonio Dumala Faelnar who claims to be God’s messenger and even went as far as putting up a headquarters that he refers to as the paradise where he and his disciples wait for the coming of God.

The sect’s devotees are promised salvation but instead, they are punished, suffer lashing, and even raped by the ‘Chief’ whenever they disobey him.

‘Mang Jess,’ a native of Mindanao, shares his story with Gus and how he was instantly lured by the Chief’s disciples to join what they call the Global Empire Government Covenant.

Ted Failon, Gus Abelgas, Alvin Elchico and Pinky Webb joined forces for an infor-fortified Saturday afternoon
Award-winning broadcast journalist Ted Failon will then come in at 4:45 p.m. to address and find solutions to the most pressing issues in the country today in “Failon Ngayon.”

This Saturday, Ted will look into the Entertainment City Manila proposed by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) that is said to be anomalous because the officials backing it have been involved in irregular transactions and gaming investments.

Meanwhile, Pinky Webb and Alvin Elchico will deliver the biggest and latest news stories relevant to the Filipino households in “TV Patrol Weekend” at 5: 30 p.m. They will deliver news and information geared towards enabling viewers with news and information, provoke discussions on socioeconomic issues that may have been neglected by the government and society, empowering consumers about their rights, and providing features that will help Filipino families achieve a work-life balance.
