President Benigno S. Aquino III declared on Monday that August 20, 2012 is a regular holiday in the Philippines through Proclamation No. 455, s. of 2012 signed August 13.
August 20, 2012 was proclaimed a holiday to mark the end of Ramadan (Eid’l Fitr) which was traditionally declared a regular holiday to give our Muslim brothers and sisters a chance to observe their faith.
With August 20, 2012 being declared as an official holiday, we can expect two consecutive long weekends. The day after Eid’l Fitr (August 21) is also a special non-working holiday deemed as Ninoy Aquino Day which marks the death anniversary of the late senator Benigno Aquino Jr.
August 27, 2012, by virtue of Proclamation No. 295 is also a regular holiday in celebration of National Heroes' Day, observed during the last Monday of August.
So there you go. Two consecutive long weekends coming our way. Start planning what to do during these times to make the long weekends productive and worthwhile.
