Star Cinema and Viva Films' Sisterakas topbilled by Queen of All Media Kris Aquino, Comedy Queen Ai Ai Delas Alas and Phenomenal Box Office Star Vice Ganda was hailed as the highest grossing MMFF movie, as well as the top grossing Filipino film of all time.
In its official Twitter account, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), which is in charge of the MMFF, reported a P342 million gross for Sisterakas during the film fest's 14-day run, which sealed its place as the highest grossing local film in history surpassing the box office success of Vice Ganda's The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin.
Meanwhile, MMFF 2012 Best Picture One More Try overtook erstwhile second-placer Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako after 2 weeks with P170.5 million gross compared to the latter's official festival-long gross of P133.5 million. Shake, Rattle, and Roll 14 was a distant fourth, earning a total of P45.3 million.
Just like their previous releases, MMDA did not reveal the official figures for the four films The Strangers, El Presidente, Sosy Problems and Thy Womb. However, the committee declared a record-breaking MMFF gross this year with P767.8 million total gross for the eight entries or 21% higher compared to the 2011 record of P636.7 million.
Here is the 2012 MMFF January 8, 2013 official box office result (final box office tally).
