GMA-7 VP for News and Public Affairs Jessica Soho has accepted Vice Ganda's public apology (read full transcript here)  which was done by the latter on the noontime show It's Showtime on Wednesday.

Jessica Soho Accepts Vice Ganda's Apology

Jessica Soho was offended by the 'rape joke' made by Vice Ganda during his concert at the Araneta Coliseum recently. The issue became a trending topic on Tuesday and the host, admitting to his fault tried to reach out and say sorry to Jessica personally but when the news anchor declined to talk to him, Vice just opted to air his apology on public.

Jessica Soho acknowledged Vice Ganda's public apology in a statement released Wednesday afternoon which said:

"I acknowledge the public apology given by Vice Ganda, by way of his TV program. I sincerely hope and pray that this was done with the purest intentions and determination to put this issue behind us.

Just to clarify certain points about my phone conversation with him – his call came without warning as his number was not programmed in my phone directory. I told him I wasn't feeling well and I wasn't sure I was ready to talk to him. But I clearly remember thanking him for his call.

As I've said, this is not about me, but about the issue of rape not being an appropriate subject matter for comedy. Rape transcends age, economic class, gender -- and even one's weight.

Once again, I thank everyone who gave their support."

Vice Ganda says sorry to Jessica Soho in public after the latter refused to talk to him personally

I just wanna make things right and I wanna make this day a beautiful one and start this right.

It is a comedy concert; it is a comedy show; it is an enlarged comedy bar show kasi naganap po sa Araneta.

Gusto kong maging matalino.

“Tinanong nila ako, ‘Ano ba’ng take mo rito?

As much as possible ayokong gawing pampubliko ito kasi ang plastik.

Para saan ‘to?’ So is it okay if I just call you later or tomorrow or some other day?’ Ang sabi n’ya, ‘I don’t think so.’”

Vice Ganda Jessica Soho 'Rape Joke' Slammed

Posted on May 28, 2013 | 7:00 PM

Comedian Vice Ganda was castigated by GMA News anchors in defense of Jessica Soho who has been a victim of Vice Ganda's offensive jokes during his I-Vice Ganda Mo 'Ko sa Araneta Concert on May 17.

Vice Ganda gets flak for jokes on Jessica Soho

Arnold Clavio in his radio program vented his anger towards Vice Ganda.

Bakit hindi taga-ABS?" said Clavio.

Vice Ganda made fun of Jessica Soho's weight but it was the use of the word 'gang rape' that earned the ire of Jessica's co-anchors and many netizens. The said joke was caught in a video which had gone viral recently.

Kailangan gang rape lagi. Sasabihin ng rapist, 'Ipasa ang lechon.' Sasabihin naman ni Jessica, 'Eh nasaan yung apple?'" said Vice after making fun of Jessica's weight.

On Twitter, GMA reporters also posted their sentiments towards the issue.

"Vice Ganda, sana di mo maranasan maging rape victim. Saglit mong patawa sa concert, buong buhay nilang trauma," posted Bam Alegre tagging Vice Ganda in the tweet.

"Para kay Vice Ganda, personal ko ito. Hindi joke ang salitang "rape." Pakiretweet po hanggang makaabot sa kanya," cried Jiggy Manicad while Maki Pulido said, "Vice ganda should realize that rape is not a joke. That rape is a form of violence. Pls RT hanggang umabot sa kanya."

Meanwhile, Jessica Soho, who is the vice president of GMA News and Public Affairs released her official statement regarding the issue via GMA News Online.

"Rape is not a joke and should never be material for a comedy concert. I thank all those who shared my hurt and expressed their support, but this should not be about me but about rape victims who suffer tremendously from this terrible crime. The horrors they go through are unspeakable and should never be taken lightly, especially by way of a cruel joke," said Jessica.

According to reports, GMA News plans to file charges against Vice Ganda to protect the interest and reputation of Jessica Soho who is a respected and award-winning journalist.
