The rematch between Nonito Donaire and Armenian Vic Darchinyan happened November 9 (November 10 in Manila) at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. "The Filipino Flash" Donaire won via a round 9 TKO.
Nonito Donaire (32-2, 21 KO) had a passive start going into the rematch with "The Raging Bull" Darchinyan (39-6-1, 28 KO). "He was sluggish, didn't look in top shape, and looked to have some mental doubts about himself throughout the fight," wrote Bad Left Hook in a published review.
Darchinyan was in control in the middle rounds of the fight, and scored a good blow on Donaire's cheek which rattled the latter in the 7th round.
After eight rounds of boxing, Donaire exploded and brought out several combinations before landing the dreaded left hook which sent Darchinyan to his knees. The referee came to a stoppage after Donaire landed several punches afterwards, declaring him as the winner of the 10-round featherweight showdown.
According to reports, Donaire was leading in the scorecards of the two judges, 78-74, 78-74, and 76-76.
