Jake Cuenca Determined to Pursue Jessy Mendiola; Ready to Compete with Other Suitors

Posted on January 22, 2014 | 4:00 PM

ABS-CBN’s local adaptation of hit Mexicanovela “Maria Mercedes” may be ending this Friday (Jan 24), but for leading man Jake Cuenca, the battle to win Jessy Mendiola’s heart is far from being over.  Jake said he would even go the next level now that he can woo the young actress more privately and off cam.

Jessy Mendiola and Jake Cuenca

“I’ll miss Jessy the most. But I think it will be better now that the show is over. At least there is no more pressure. I’ll still be the same with Jessy even now that the show is over. The only difference is that we will have more privacy than before,” said Jake.

Jessy, who is currently being tagged as the “it girl” of showbiz, recently revealed in “Buzz ng Bayan” last Sunday that she rarely sees or communicates with actor Sam Milby. Does this development encourage Jake even more to pursue the sought-after actress?

“I really don’t mind Jessy’s other suitors. Like what I’ve said, I’m moving at my own pace regardless if Sam is courting her or not or if Jessy and I will be together or not. I just want it to happen at the right time when Jessy and I are both ready,” he said.

“Maria Mercedes” recently held its last taping day where the production team shot the intense finale scenes avid viewers should watch out for this week. Find out what Misty (Nikki Gil) is capable of doing just to destroy the lives of (Jessy Mendiola) and Luis (Jake Cuenca). How will she save herself from going to jail after Malvina (Vivian Velez) surrendered the last piece of evidence to authorities that will prove she is guilty of killing Mercedes’ brother Guillermo (Marx Topacio)? Whose life will be sacrificed in the name of revenge?

Jessy Mendiola is Maria Mercedes

"Pwede ko na sabihin, ang tagal kong itinago ito—ako si Maria Mercedes," Jessy Mendiola said in a solo press conference on Wednesday.

"Isa talaga si Maria Mercedes sa dream roles ko kaya excited ako para sa project na ito. Hanggang ngayon ay hindi ako makapaniwala na gagampanan ko ang isang napakaganda at iconic character na talaga namang minahal ng maraming Filipino," she added.

Jessy said she became emotional when the role was offered to her, most especially when the network let her sing the theme song of the series.

"Sobra akong surprised kaya noong nalaman ko na ako si Maria Mercedes, naging emosyonal ako. Pangarap kong maging siya. Tapos pinakanta pa sa akin 'yung theme song. Ang saya ko na pinagkakatiwalaan pa din ako ngayon," she added.

Jessy Mendiola is Maria Mercedes in ABS-CBN Remake; Jake Cuenca Plays Leading Man

Posted on April 17, 2013 | 10:00 AM

Jessy Mendiola has been chosen to play the role of Maria Mercedes in the upcoming Philippine remake of ABS-CBN. According to reports, Jessy was told of the good news late last year during the Star Magic Ball.

Jessy Mendiola is Pinay Maria Mercedes

As a teaser for the project, Jessy Mendiola appeared as Maria Mercedes Muñoz Gonzales in the ABS-CBN 2013 summer station ID. Jessy exuded so much sexiness, and the Latina vibe she possessed in her Preview magazine cover more than proved that she's Maria, herself.

Maria Mercedes is the first of the "Marias" telenovela trilogy followed by Maria la Del Barrio and Marimar, all of which starred Thalia. Aired locally by ABS-CBN in 1996, Maria Mercedes sees Thalia as a street urchin whose life takes a turn when she agrees to marry an immensely rich man who is terminally ill. Maria's leading man in the series is Jorge Luis.

Playing Jorge Luis is hunk actor Jake Cuenca. Maria Mercedes will be the first time that Jake will be working with Jessy and the actor is very excited for the project.

"Sobrang grateful ako kasi may teleserye ako ulit. Si Jessy Mendiola pa ang leading lady. Napapanood ko ang 'Paraiso' at ang laki na ng in-improve niya, ang laki na ng maturity level niya as an actress and as a person. Tapos, magkaibigan din kami, so excited akong makatrabaho siya," the 25-year-old actor was quoted as saying by entertainment news site Philippine Entertainment Portal.

Aside from Jake Cuenca, reports also said that Jason Abalos will also be part of the project.

The rags-to-riches story of Maria Mercedes is the only hit in the "Marias" telenovela trilogy that is yet to be remade. ABS-CBN is already done with Maria La Del Barrio which was topbilled by Erich Gonzales and Enchong Dee while GMA had Marimar (initially for Angel Locsin before she transferred to ABS-CBN) which launched the career of Marian Rivera.

Slated to air this year, Maria Mercedes Philippine remake will be directed by Chito Roño.
