The Singing Bee Returns on TV this November 16

Posted on November 13, 2013 | 5:50 PM

The well-loved hosting tandem of Roderick Paulate and Amy Perez is back and is set to bring total entertainment to every member of the family beginning Saturday (Nov 16) as the hit musical game show “The Singing Bee” returns to ABS-CBN.

Kuya Dick and Tiyang Amy for The Singing Bee
Weekend bonding time will surely become more fun as the whole family can sing and play along with the game, regardless if he can sing or not, as long as he can guess the correct lyrics of popular songs. On top of that, returning Kapamilya Dick and Amy will complete the viewing experience with their exchange of witty banters.

“This will ease your problems and stress. The show fits in with everyone because Filipinos are natural music lovers,” Amy said.

“Viewers will love ‘The Singing Bee’ because the show is synonymous to fun and every Filipino likes to have fun. They will probably love the sing-along, the dancing, and the guessing game,” Dick added.

In its pilot episode this Saturday, Carmi Martin, Boboy Garovillo, Ogie Diaz, Eric Fructuoso and Kiray Celis — Dick and Amy’s closest friends in the entertainment industry — will play and compete to win the P1 million jackpot prize.

“The Voice of the Philippines” artists Isa Fabregas, Jessica Reynoso, Penelope Matanguihan, Maki Ricafort, and Yuki Ito are also part of “The Singing Bee” as the show’s resident singers called  the “Songbees.” The “Bandble Bees,” led by veteran musical director Mel Villena, will also stage a comeback along with sexy dancers “Honeybees.”

“The Singing Bee” will be composed of four exciting rounds. Five individuals will compete in the elimination round called “To Bee Continued,” where each contestant has to sing the next line of the song initiated by the “Songbees.” The first four people who sing the line correctly will qualify for the next two rounds “Jumble Bee” and “Beedeoke.”

In “Jumble Bee” round, lyrics from a particular song will be shown scrambled on screen and each of the contestants have to sing it in correct order to earn two points.

The four remaining contestants will consecutively sing a song in a fill-in-the-blanks format in the “Beedeoke” round. Each player has three blanks to fill in, where each correct answer is equal to three points.

The contestant with the highest of total points from the second and third rounds will advance to the jackpot round dubbed as the “Final Countdown” to face the defending champion.

In the final round, the contestants must first determine who between them will go first through the toss-up called “Manuhan.” One of the hosts will give an artist name and the contestants must provide any song title recorded by the given artist. Whoever buzzes in first with the correct answer will get the first bid at the jackpot and the privilege to choose a category.

The first finalist must then guess four missing lyrics in seven songs to be played in the “Final Countdown.” Each correct answer corresponds to P20,000 cash. If ever he completes all four, the first finalist wins the P1 million grand prize. But in the event that the first finalist commits a mistake, the second finalist will have the chance to steal and play for the jackpot. Whoever wins in the “Final Coundown” will be hailed as the champion and will return to the next week’s episode to defend his title.

The Voice PH Battle Rounds Results (August 4): Paolo Onesa, Junji Arias, Penelope, Kimpoy Won Battles

The Battle Rounds of The Voice of the Philippines aired its third episode on Sunday (August 4) and another four pairs performed, battling head-to-head for a slot at the live shows.

The Voice of the Philippines - The Battles

First to went up the battle stage were Team Bamboo's Paolo Onesa and Cordovales duo, who both charmed the viewers with their version of APO Hiking Society's Panalangin. Father & son tandem, Mark and Willy Cordovales impressed with their natural harmony while Paolo Onesa had that rich tone. Bamboo, in the end picked Paolo, a dark horse in the competition, who he wanted to help improve under his coaching. [Battle video]

Taw Muhammad and Kimpoy Mainit were Team Lea's second pair to face off in The Battles. The two performed a slow version of Without You by David Guetta feat. Usher. Their duet created a magical moment, and coach Lea was teary-eyed knowing she had to let go of one very good artist, Taw for that matter. The latter said her goodbyes to friend Kimpoy (who won the battle) singing a few lines from Dido's Thank You. [Battle video]

Team Apl's Penelope, Moira and Cara battled in this season's second triangle fight. Coach Apl gave them the song One Night Only from the movie Dream Girls and her three "bebots" delivered an amazing performance. However, there's only one who stood outPenelope Matanguihan, who won the battle. The former Pinoy Idol finalist was also the choice of coach Sarah and Team Apl adviser, Arnel Pineda. [Battle video]

The last battle of the evening pitted Junji Arias and Dave Lamar against each other. The two artists of Team Sarah faced off in what could be the most interesting song choice of the night—the anthemic Bohemian Rhapsody of Queen. And that was the perfect battle song! Both were electrifying but Junji was the man of the evening, so he's the one advancing to the live shows. [Battle video]

Next weekend, the Battle Rounds will proceed with another set of pairs from the four teams. Who will make it to the live shows next? Find out on The Voice of the Philippines, Saturdays after MMK and Sundays after Rated K.

The Voice of the Philippines Battles Heat Up with Triangle Fights

Posted on August 2, 2013 | 4:17 PM

Six pairs and two trios are set to turn up the competition as teams get whittled down in another wave of the Battles Round this Saturday (August 3) and Sunday (August 4) in the country’s top-rating and Twitter-trending singing-reality show “The Voice of the Philippines.”

Three-way battles in The Voice of the Philippines

First up on the battle stage are two ‘gods’– RnB artist Thor Dulay and alternative rocker Sir Lord Lumibao – both coach Apl de Ap’s team members who will deliver a vocal duel of a popular RnB song.

Thor burst through as an early standout in “The Voice” as he was the first artist to trend on Twitter for his performance that made the four coaches push their buttons and turn their chairs during the Blind Auditions.

Despite this, Sir Lord remains unfazed and feels even more challenged to come out of his comfort zone by stepping away from his genre. He said that he also relies on his ability to make outstanding covers of songs and his experience performing in a band.

Also facing off in competitive duets are Penelope Matanguihan, Moira dela Torre, Cara Manglapus for Team Apl; Japs Mendoza vs Diday Garcillano and Taw Muhammad vs Kimpoy Mainit for Team Lea; Angelique Alcantara vs Deb Victa vs Nicole Parada and Paolo Onesa vs the Cordovales duo for Team Bamboo; and Yuki Ito vs Kathreen Castro and Junji Arias vs Dave Lamar for Team Sarah.

Don’t miss “The Voice of the Philippines,” every Saturday, 9 PM, and every Sunday, 8:15 PM on ABS-CBN. Performing Beyonce's Love on Top, Penelope made three chairs to turn for her, and later chose Apl de Ap  over Sarah Geronimo and Lea Salonga as her coach.

Japs Mendoza Duets with Bamboo in The Voice of the Philippines

The Voice of the Philippines artist Japs Mendoza got to perform with coach Bamboo Manalac on the show's July 14 episode. Japs and Bamboo did a duet on the latter's hit Truth, which Japs sang during his Blind Auditions.

Japs said that he idolized Bamboo and felt the groove of the song. However, the rocker didn’t turn his chair for him. Instead, coach Lea Salonga was the one who pushed her button for the 16-year-old Bulacan native.

"I will teach you how to find your own voice. That’s why I’m so excited I turned my chair for you," Lea told Japs Mendoza.

Finding the artist as moldable, the Truth reprise of Japs and Bamboo justified, according to coach Lea her decision to pick the teenager as he has a lot of potential. Watch Bamboo and Japs Mendoza Truth duet below.

Joining Japs Mendoza in Team Lea is his fellow Bulakenyo Rainier Acosta, who advanced to the Battles on Sunday's episode together with former Pinoy Idol Top 7 finalist Penelope Matanguihan (Team Apl) (watch Penelope's performance here), beauty queen Lecelle Trinidad (Team Sarah) and student Talia Reyes (Team Bamboo).
