TV Patrol 25th Anniversary Party Airs this August 5 on Sunday's Best

The anchors and reporters of “TV Patrol” took a timeout from news reporting to entertain and show off their creative chops to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the country’s leading newscast last Friday (July 27) at the Manila Hotel.

As if to show that journalists know how to have fun, “TV Patrol” anchor Noli ‘Kabayan’ de Castro serenaded the crowd and Korina Sanchez crooned the Filipino classic “Kahit Maputi na ang Buhok Ko” in “25 Taong Patrol ng Pilipino: The TV Patrol Silver Anniversary Special” to be aired on Sunday (August 5), 11 p.m. on ABS-CBN.

TV Patrol Anchors

Also turning the heat up the dance floor were “TV Patrol Weekend” anchor Pinky Webb and Star patrollers Gretchen Fullido, Phoemela Baranda, Ginger Conejero, and Marie Lozano, who turned in an alluring salsa performance.

The audience also erupted with laughter from the comic duets of Tony Velasquez and Kitkat, Marc Logan and Cacai Bautista, Doris Bigornia and Leo Martinez, and Henry Omaga-Diaz who was noticeably nervous in his song number with comedienne Ethel Booba.

Besides the stellar performances, the celebration also honored the pioneers and past newscasters of “TV Patrol” such as the late Angelo Castro Jr., Rolly V. Cruz, Frankie Evangelista and Ernie Baron whose awards were received by their respective families.

The star-studded event, which was attended by the biggest newsmakers in the country, also revisited the biggest news reports delivered by TV Patrol’s bold reporters as well as the stories that inspired and brought hope to the nation.

“‘TV Patrol’ reflects the condition of our country, what needs to be changed, and what needs to be stopped. We will work with Filipinos in their fight to make their lives better, to uphold democracy, and to celebrate victories,” said ABS-CBN chairman and CEO Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III.

Kapamilya stars also shone in the event with performances from Dulce, Vina Morales, Basil Valdez, Bituin Escalante, Jed Madela, Gloc-9, Freddie Aguilar and the Watawat Band, Pepe Smith, Erik Santos, Angeline Quinto, Jovit Baldivino, and Marcelito Pomoy.

Don’t miss “25 Taong Patrol ng Pilipino: The TV Patrol Silver Anniversary Special” hosted by ‘Kabayan,’ Korina, and Ted Failon this Sunday (August 5) after “Gandang Gabi Vice” on ABS-CBN. For information and updates, follow @TVPatrol on Twitter or like www.facebook.com/tvpatrol.abscbn.

Xian Lim's 'Two Funerals' to Air on Cinema One this August 5

The award-winning Cinemalaya independent film, “Two Funerals” starring Tessie Tomas, Jeffrey Quizon and Xian Lim, airs on Cinema One this Sunday (August 5). The film marks Lim’s first appearance in a full-length movie.

The film depicting ‘grief as a seriously funny business’ by Cinemalaya Best Director, Gil Portes follows the life of a mother (Tomas) who searches for the body of her daughter (Princess Manzon) after getting mixed up with the corpse of a wanted man. To claim back her daughter’s body, Tomas travels with her daughter’s fiancée, Gerry (Xian Lim) from Tuguegarao, Cagayan in the north to Matnog, Sorsogon in the south, a journey to the heart of the country during Holy Week in the heat of the election season.

Xian Lim and Princess Manzon -"Two Funerals"
During their solemn journey, they encounter a series of events where the country’s societal ills are depicted. The film was praised due to its accurate description of the detestable practices in the country.

“The performances of the cast members contribute greatly to the artistic success of Two Funerals: Tessie Tomas (her portrayal of her character is very tempered and this clearly shows what a disciplined actress she is), newcomer Xian Lim, Benjie Felipe and Mon Confiado (the brains behind the money-making wake) and Althea Vega as Benjie’s sensible wife,” said Butch Francisco.

“Two Funerals was a crowd-favorite during the Cinemalaya festival. The award-winning script by Enrique Ramos was obviously well thought of. I love the juxtaposition of the holy and the irreverent, the spiritual and the mundane,” said Nel Costales, blogger. The cast was also praised for their superb acting and timing especially Lim, who was called a ‘revelation’ in the film.

The film also stars Robert Arevalo, Benjie Felipe, Mon Confiado and Princess Manzon. It also won Best Screenplay (Enrique Ramos) and Best Cinematography (Arvin Viola) in the Cinemalaya 2010 Awards night.

Catch “Two Funerals” on the number one cable channel in the Philippines, Cinema One, on Sunday Blockbusters movie block on August 5 at 8:00 p.m. Cinema One is available on SkyCable Gold, SkyCable Silver and other quality cable operators nationwide. 'The Healing' Grosses P80 Million on First 7 Days According to Star Cinema

Posted on July 31, 2012 | 10:42 PM

The Healing starring Vilma Santos and Kim Chiu grossed P80 million on its first week of showing according to Star Cinema. The Healing  is Gov. Vi's 50th anniversary movie and her first suspense-horror film.

The Healing is poised to be the third Pinoy film to reach the P100 million mark this year after John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin's Unofficially Yours and Eugene Domingo's Kimmy Dora and the Temple of Kiyeme.

The Healing First Week Gross: P80 million

This was quite an amazing feat for a movie that despite heavy rains and huge competitors from Hollywood  and the successul Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival managed to rake in a large sum of money. It can be recalled that The Dark Night Rises' 2nd week in theaters clashed with The Healing's first week while Cinemalaya ran from July 20-29, also showing simultaneously with The Healing.

The Healing, which is graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board, was given an R-13 and R-18 rating by the MTRCB. This would mean that in its two versions, strictly 13 years old or 18 years old and above can watch the movie (kids are not allowed).

Congratulations to the whole cast and crew of The Healing, especially to Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto and Direk Chito Roño. The Healing, now on its second week is still showing in theaters nationwide.

Mikay's Big Reveal as Yangdon Princess Draws Near

ABS-CBN’s primetime princess Kathryn Bernardo has confessed that she was initially intimidated by the regal presence of award-winning actress Gretchen Barretto in their ‘royal teleserye,’ “Princess and I.”

Kathryn admitted that she was so starstrucked when she had her first scenes with Gretchen, now popularly known as ‘Ashi Behati,’ the despicable mother of Dasho Jao (Enrique Gil).

Ashi Behati and Princess Mikay of Yangdon

“I was nervous while doing our sole scene in Bhutan and even until our initial takes here in the Philippines. I was really tensed to work with Ms. Gretchen. Everyone in the set is mesmerized by her beauty,” said Kathryn, who later on realized how fun-loving La Greta is behind the cameras. “She is so cool in the set. She always wants all of us to be happy while working.”

As Kathryn and Gretchen get along well off-screen, the conflict between their characters in the drama series builds up. “Now that the revelation about Mikay’s ‘royal identity’ draws near, I’ll have more scenes with Ashi Behati that the viewers should watch out for,” shared Kathryn.

Can Ashi Behati still prevent everyone from knowing that Mikay is the long lost princess of the Kingdom of Yangdon? What will King Anand (Albert Martinez) do when he finds out that Behati was the mastermind of the accident that killed her queen and endangered her beloved princess?

Don’t miss Mikay’s royal tale in “Princess and I” weeknights after “TV Patrol” on Primetime Bida. For more updates, log on to www.abs-cbn.com or follow @abscbndotcom on Twitter.

Posted on July 30, 2012 | 10:07 PM

Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson appear together on the new Jollibee TV commercial. Sasa and Gege "together at last" was the idea behind this TVC from Jollibee.

Sasa and Gege Together at Last in Jollibee TVC

Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson instantly became a hot topic this week because Gerald, who has been courting Sarah for the past six months stopped pursuing the Popstar Princess allegedly because Mommy Divine discouraged him to do so, which was denied by Sarah's mother on her guesting on Sarah G Live last July 29 (read story here).

The commercial's tagline was very timely, the two being "together at last" after what happened. Even Sarah and Gerald's lines in the said TV commercial hit a ride on the issue.
Gerald: So, balikan na ‘to?
Sarah: Oo, pangalawang balik ko na nga ‘to, e.
