Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla to Star in 'Magic Temple' Movie Remake

Posted on October 6, 2013 | 9:47 AM

Reigning Teen King and Queen Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo will be doing a movie remake of the hit fantasy-adventure Magic Temple, Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos confirmed.

Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla to Star in 'Magic Temple' Movie Remake

In an interview with Manila Bulletin, Malous Santos revealed that Star Cinema will be doing a remake of the 1996 film topbilled by then teen stars Jason Salcedo, Junell Hernando and Marc Solis. The said movie, directed by Peque Gallaga and Lore Reyes, is a big success at the 1996 Metro Manila Film festival winning all of the 7 nominations including Best Film.

Malou Santos said that the Magic Temple movie remake topbilled by Kathryn and Daniel will be done in partnership with Reality Entertainment and will boast of new special effects. Star Cinema is also planning to make a movie franchise out of Magic Temple, the script of which is already on its first draft.

"We’re thinking of doing a franchise of Magic Temple na limang pelikula. ‘Pag may may Magic Temple, magkakaroon ng Magic City, etc. So five stories na tuloy-tuloy," said Santos.

Magic Temple then had a sequel, Magic Kingdom in 1997 courtesy of Viva Films and still directed by the tandem of Gallaga and Reyes. The film still starred Salcedo, Hernando but Solis was replaced by Janus del Prado. It was also the film debut of now multimedia princess Anne Curtis.

Are you excited for the Magic Temple remake starring Kathryn and Daniel. Well, the movie will be released most probably late 2014 (maybe another MMFF entry). For now, let's savor the magic of KathNiel in Got to Believe, weeknights on ABS-CBN primetime bida.

Angel Locsin is Darna in Star Cinema Movie, Malou Santos Confirms

Award-winning actress Angel Locsin will reprise her role as the Pinay superheroine Darna, but this time, it will be on the big screen. This was confirmed by Star Cinema managing director Malou N. Santos in an interview with Manila Bulletin.

Angel Locsin is still Darna, this time in the big screen

Last year, ABS-CBN acquired the rights to several Mars Ravelo titles including Darna, Captain Barbell and Dyesebel. There are unconfirmed reports then about Angel Locsin reprising her role as Darna but it was not until today that the most-coveted 'stone' was confirmed to be bestowed still on Angel.

Angel Locsin has played Darna for television way back in 2005. Then GMA-7 did another TV version  in 2009 starring Marian Rivera.

When ABS-CBN bought the rights to famous masterpieces of Mars Ravelo, the initial thought is that they will be remaking them for television. However, recent developments revealed that the management is planning for movie remakes of these works.

According to Ms. Malous Santos, Star Cinema is already done with the script regarding Darna's past and currently brainstorming for the continuation of the story. The film outfit is targeting next year for the start of filming.

So there you are. It's official that Angel Locsin will be playing Darna in a movie version by Star Cinema. Angel is very deserving for the role that even Marian Rivera (who already played Darna) approved of Angel's Darna reprise (read story here).

Keep posted for more updates about this big Darna movie from Star Cinema and the rest of the cast, especially, the main villain Valentina and Darna's little brother Ding (the 'stone keeper').

Kung Fu Divas Starring Ai Ai Delas Alas and Marian Rivera Opens October 2

Posted on September 23, 2013 | 6:49 PM

Two of the country’s “box-office divas” from rival TV networks—Kapamilya Comedy Queen AiAi delas Alas and Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera—will join forces in this year’s funniest epic comedy-adventure film titled “Kung Fu Divas,” which will hit cinemas nationwide on October 2 (Wednesday).

Kung Fu Divas Starring Ai Ai Delas Alas and Marian Rivera Opens October 2

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, Star Cinema continues its two-decade tradition of sharing stories of pure laughter and entertainment to the Filipino audience by teaming up with co-producers Reality Entertainment and O & Co. Picture Factory to produce a world-class Onat Diaz masterpiece.

“Masayang-masaya kami ni Marian na part kami ng 20th anniversary celebration ng Star Cinema. Happy din ako dahil nakasama for the first time ang isa sa mga reyna ng GMA,” said AiAi. “Sa totoo lang, isa ito sa pinakamahirap na pelikulang ginawa ko–acting-wise and action-wise. Nag-training din kasi kami dito for martial arts kaya mahirap. Pero sa ganda ng movie, sulit ‘yung hirap. Fulfilled na fulfilled ako.”

Like AiAi, Marian takes pride in being part of “Kung Fu Divas.” In fact, she applauded upon learning about their milestone movie. “Happy ako na nagkakaroon ng ganitong pagkakaisa para sa isang pelikula at kabilang ako doon sa moment na ‘yun,” Marian expressed. “Napaka-memorable po nito sa akin dahil ang daming bago sa akin dito. Bukod sa unang pagsasama po namin ito ni Ate AiAi, first time ko rin pong nakatrabaho si Direk Onat, first time kong magkaroon ng comedy-action na pelikula, at syempre first movie ko po ito from Star Cinema.”

Aside from their newfound friendship, “Kung Fu Divas” was close to the heart of AiAi and Marian because of its top caliber concept and execution.

“Kung Fu Divas” is a story about two bitter rivals in “Hiyas ng Dalampasigan” beauty pageant namely Charlotte (AiAi) and Samantha (Marian), who will be forced to become allies after an unexpected turn of events that put the lives of many in danger.

Can you set aside rivalry and sacrifice your own life for ‘world peace?’

Joining AiAi and Marian in “Kung Fu Divas” are Roderick Paulate, Edward Mendez, Bianca Manalo, Precious Lara Quigaman, Nova Villa and Gloria Diaz.

Don’t miss the world-class special effects, lessons, and the new flavor of comedy from the fresh dynamic duo of AiAi and Marian in the epic comedy-adventure film “Kung Fu Divas” showing on cinemas all over the country on October 2, 2013.

Be Careful with My Heart Movie No Longer Part of MMFF 2013

Posted on September 12, 2013 | 10:29 PM

The movie version of ABS-CBN's hit daytime drama Be Careful with My Heart will no longer be part of this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2013).

The continuation of Maya and Ser Chief's love story via Be Careful with My Heart Movie will no longer be seen on MMFF 2013

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino confirmed in a report by Dennis Datu on DZMM that Be Careful with My Heart backed out of the annual festival. According to the said report, the MMFF 2013 organizing committee received Star Cinema's letter formalizing the withdrawal on Thursday afternoon.

Star Cinema, in its letter, explained that they decided to pull out the movie due to the "tight schedule" of the cast and crew of Be Careful with My Heart. Apparently, it was difficult to shoot for the movie while everyone's still busy taping the ongoing series.

There are no confirmations yet whether the production of the film will still push through even after this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.

With Be Careful with My Heart's withdrawal from MMFF 2013, one slot is again vacated and ready to be occupied by a film to be chosen by the organizing committee from among the 15 shortlisted ones to complete the eight official entries.

Before Be Careful with My Heart, Bong Revilla's My Super Kap, which is suppose to bring the senator on the big screen opposite Ai Ai Delas Alas and Toni Gonzaga was also pulled out from the MMFF due to conflicting schedules of the Kapamilya leading ladies.

Sam Milby Replaces Piolo Pascual in 'Kimmy Dora' Prequel; Plays Leading Man to Eugene Domingo in MMFF 2013 Entry

Posted on August 17, 2013 | 10:22 AM

Singer-actor Sam Milby will replace fellow Kapamilya Piolo Pascual as Eugene Domingo's leading man in Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel, an official entry to the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2013).

Sam Milby Replaces Piolo Pascual in 'Kimmy Dora' Prequel | Plays Leading Man to Eugene Domingo in MMFF 2013 Entry

Piolo Pascual has to begged off from the project because of his busy schedule. However, he will still co-produced the movie via Spring Films, a production venture of Piolo, talent manager Erickson Raymundo, Shayne Sarte, and director Joyce Bernal.

He can't do the movie anymore because of his schedule kasi may ginagawa rin siyang mga pelikula ngayon. So meron kaming mga kailangang habulin schedule at hindi na siya nagma-match, so nag-decide naman kami to allow him not to do it na rin," Erickson Raymundo told ABS-CBN News.

Piolo Pascual, aside from being busy promoting for the internationally acclaimed film On the Job which opens August 28 in cinemas, is also filming for his first movie with actress Toni Gonzaga. The said project will also star Iza Calzado.

Both Eugene and Piolo were very happy that Sam accepted the role. Sam revealed that he was a big fan of the Kimmy Dora movies, that's why he was equally excited and pressured of doing the film since he knew that it has already established a lot of following.

Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel will take place a few years before the first Kimmy Dora film. The last installment of the Kimmy Dora trilogy, the movie will be a combination of mystery and comedy--more like a James Bond kind of movie gearing towards Austin Powers, Eugene revealed.
